I've been twice, my first experience was kind of bad, I paid a local guide who charged more because we choosed the English tour, no worth it, But I heard there is great guide's English speakers, maybe was bad luck for me, so take time to choose your guide.
My second experience I decided to go with out guide, it was better because I covered a lot.
bring light clothe and water because there is hot.
The ruins are amazing, you will able to see a lot of details on it, beautiful place, and if you are lucky you will some wild macaws flying.

“Beautiful park-like place with great rebuilt ruins”

Nothing not to like, unless it is raining. Would recommend a guide as they can interept the Mayan world and you get so much out of it. Need at least 1/2 day. If you get to the near-by town there is a small museum of photos taken when it was first excavated.

“Fantastic ruin site”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2013

I have visited many Mayan sites throughout central America and this is definitely one go my favourites. It is a large area and getting a guide is well worth the money. they have a museum on site that is amazing as well, a must visit in Honduras if you're at all interested in the culture.

We spent most of the day exploring these ruins with a great guide that helped explain a lot about the history. They charge fees for the different sections BUT all worth it as they are doing a great job at preserving these ruins, and still uncovering more.

“Visit to the ruins”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Very special place. We're living in Copan Ruinas so have visited the ruins 3 times, and loved that on the night of Dec. 21, 2012, they opened it up at night to mark the end of the Mayan calendar (when the world did NOT end). I recommend getting a guide. The museum and the ruins themselves are worth the combined $22 admission, but I think the tunnels at $15 are overpriced unless you're a serious history buff, as they give you access to the four layers of construction that were built over time at the site.
