“Worth Visiting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

These ruins are well developed and easy to traverse. We didn't have a guide but we still felt we were able to appreciate the ruins and the significance of the various buildings. Though small in area than many other Mayan ruins, it is very manageable.

“So detailed”

This ruins are not huge, like others, but the statues are so detailed. We had a guide that was fantastic. I highly recommend getting one.

“Copan Ruinas”

Very cool. We paid a guide to walk us around and learned a lot about the Ruins, but it cost us about $60. If you can afford it, splurge.. Make sure you pay extra to go down into the tunnels. Take plenty of water with you, once you are inside, there is no vending available for drinks or snacks.

“Stelaes & Writing Galore... and some COLOR!!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2013

This place is THA BOMB!!!! Copan Ruin's a wonderful coffee town in the Mayan highlands of Honduras serves as a launching point to this true MAYAN experience... The site is part of a bigger whole... Mayan/Coffee Highlands excursions; unwind in an old Spanish colonial hacienda setting and walk back in time; visiting or Royal Mayan Friends in their sacred metropolis of COPAN!!!!!

FACT: Copan is the Best location for Mayan scriptures, this is their ROSETTA STONE. Combined with Quirigua in Guatemala; its the perfect combo to understand and marvel at STELAES. Did I mention that they found large amounts of COLOR pigments and it has been key to confirming how they went about site embellishment....

A step outside of the ruins..... is a MUSEUM... OMG, actually an explicit educational site near the rocks that paints a colorful picture of what we are looking at and its in REAL LIFE!!!! Woohoo and on top of that they have charismatic street vendors at the gate and stores on site selling a large variety of Mayan items....

Honey board up the house I am moving to Copan Ruinas.....
You can find me around the town square, having one of the best freshly brewed coffee's in the world with a good book and probably some sweet tunes in the background!!!!!

“Very Interesting Archaelogical Site”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

I've wanted to visit this archaeological site for years and was very pleased that I was finally able to go. Although the site isn't nearly as extensive or as well excavated as other Mayan sites such as Palenque, Chichen Itza or Tikal, it was still a very interesting visit. For one thing, this site has more stelae than any other I've visited. The hieroglyphic staircase is also unique and a wonder to see. There are a number of unexcavated pyramids near the entrance that will give the visitor a good idea of what a pyramid looks like before excavation and reconstruction. The museum is new, spacious and well lit and is worth a visit. It should be noted that many of the stelae and other sculptures you see on the grounds of the ruins are copies. Many of the originals have been moved to the on site museum or to other locations in order to preserve them from the ravages of the elements. Get yourself a guide to take you through the ruins. It will be well worth the price. ours was extremely knowledgeable and was very helpful during our time at the ruins.
