Its a nice ruins site. Definitely not as impressive as Tikal or Palenque and is also for me a little pricey. However, the local guacamaya rehabilitation sanctuary release their rehabilitated birds into the ruins and it's quite amazing to see a flock of 50 or more guacamayas flying over the ancient temples.

Our three days in Copan (indeed our three days in Honduras) had the main purpose simply to visit the Copan Ruins. We were not disappointed; the books and write ups do not do justice to the quality of the hieroglyphs.

The site is clean and safe. We hired a guide who turned out, fortunately, to be way more knowledgeable than average, so our detailed questions could generally be answered.

Most people could do the entire site in 3-4 hours but there was enough to keep us busy for an entire day.

It is a nice place to visit if you are around. However, ruins is Mexico or Guatemala are much better. If you are around or specialy interested in ruins, it is nice to go there.

We spent a whole day touring the ruins and loved it. There were very few people there at end of january and you could take great pictures without any tourists in them. We came back and did museum a different day otherwise it is too much walking. We enjoyed their hiking trail into the more natural areas. Didn't have a need to do the tunnels if you go to the museum. They were made recently to see inside the buildings and are not very extensive.
