“Used to be a gem?”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

Based on the reviews from 2012, this place was a gem in its youth. Sadly, the hotel is showing its wear. The shower in our room had cracks in the tub and the worst smell... probably one of the worst showers in 18 months of travel.
On a brighter note, the upstair rooms are spacious and we had two fans. For the price, it is ok. There is even a kitchen with fridge and free drinking water. Try not to get stuck in the rooms near the kitchen, they are loud and you will always be shown to them first.
What made our stay a little frustrating was the lack of service. The family that lives here was frequently cooking taking over the entire kitchen and refrigerator. There is an upstair terrace, but it was pretty messy from the staff. The drinking water frequently ran out and we would have to ask them to replace.
But for $15 USD for a private double, I might even stay here again.

First a disclaimer: i stayed only one night and stayed in one of the most crappy rooms of the hotel, so i cant say Anything about the majority of the rooms.

- first, when i looked at the dorm rooms I saw a dried out bed bug lying on one of the beds. The girl who showed it shrugged and didn't seem to realize the severity of it
- i Asked for a clean private room instead and (maybe because i Asked for a discount) she put me in the room next to the kitchen
- This room was not cleaned in a while and Very basic. Far to expensive for the price They quoted
- worst of all, the whole neighbourhood seemed to congregate in the main hall in the evening, with the television on, kids playing loudly and a group of women hanging out in the kitchen (directly next to the room i slept in). In their defense - when i said something of it at 10pm it stopped within half an hour.

I would not stay here again. There are better deals in town for less money

We stayed here for two nights. It was definitely a good place to stay, and I'd recommend it. Our room was very clean and we had our own private bathroom, all for $15 a night. It is family owned and everyone who works there is very friendly. It was colder while we were there and they gave us a warmer blanket to help keel us warm. The location is good, just a few blocks from the Central Park and about a 20 minute walk from the ruins. It is very quiet and well run. Free purified water too! Stay here for a good, safe cheapie in Copan.

Came here after spending one night in a hotel that was quite similar but four times more expensive! The girl behind the desk was incredibly helpful and sweet, even calling the owner on the phone to come by so that I could pay. The owner was also kind, friendly, and welcoming.

Rooms were great for the value, with two large and comfortable beds. AC was included but unnecessary as Copan got surprisingly chilly at night. Hot water was a godsend after living in Villanueva with daily cold showers.

Location was super, literally a block from the central park and within walking distance of pretty much everything in the entire city, including the ruins themselves.

The main draw is the phenomenally low price, considering that the hotel is actually nice. Highly recommended.

The hotel don moises is a real find in Copan, the site of major Mayan Ruins. Located one block from the central plaza, the hotel is convenient to everything. The cafe Via Via is right across the street with its restaurant and bar, there is a major restaurant next door, 2 excellent pizza places are within a one block walk, the central market is one block away with everything from Panama hats to Indian beads. The hotel has singles, doubles and triples and one 8 bed dormitory. Prices range from $15 for a single to $25 for a triple. They have air conditioning, intetrnet, cable TV and WiFi, plus a roof top terrace and a communal kitchen, if you get tired of the restaurants. The hotel Don Moises is family owned and operated and the owners son Jose Luis and daughter Daniela speal English.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are good - clean and quiet.

At first we were put in a downstairs room that only had one small window high up in the wall, felt a bit like being under the stairs. However this was a blessing in disguise as the room stayed cool all day and in the morning you can sleep in if you wish.
Family that own and run it are really nice and it's location very good.
If you arrive on the bus walk up the hill into the town square, walk straight over the square and you'll find it a short walk on the right.
The ruins are an easy walk to get to over the bridge and well worth the effort.
The Birn Santuary is also great fun and informative

We had a lovely stay here at the Hotel don Moises. Amana and Edvin really did go out of their way to make us feel welcome. The room was just what we needed, and the free wifi, purified water, and use of the kitchen was very handy. With the location right in the middle of town and the rock bottom prices you just can't go wrong. The place could have been a little cleaner but at the price it is hard to fault.
