“Great place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2013

This is a great place. We rented the whole hotel for a week for a volunteer project in the area.
Staff is outstanding. Very safe. Great breakfast. If you go to Copan and stay in the middle of town, be prepared for a certain amount of noise at night and early morning-- I used the noise app on my Ipad. The hotel itself is very quiet and secure.

The hotel was very quaint and has a great sense of the culture. You could see this demonstrated in the artwork, needlepoint, and linens. The staff particularly Marianna was fabulous! You get get fresh tea with lemongrass that was cut from the garden. The outdoor eating area was very tranquil. It was heavenly having breakfast there every morning. You will get your legs going with the very steep hill you have to climb to get there from the main square. However, you could take a tuk tuk for $1 US. It actually was a nice bit of exercise during the trip. The ruins are less than 10 minutes away by car. Some people do walk there but we took a tuk tuk. We walked to all the restaurants and shops. Very convenient. Would stay there again in a heart beat.

During our 4th visit to Copan, we splurged and stayed all 6 nights at Terramaya. The room was beautiful, comfortable & peaceful (with our own private balcony), the staff (as always) kind, genuine, helpful and well trained. The sense of hospitality displayed by all the staff, including our beautiful hostess (and owner) Angela, made this stay at Terramaya special and memorable. There can be no finer hotel or B & B in Copan.

I was in Copan largely for spanish classes, and after 6 nights of a very disappointing homestay, decided I needed a hotel so that I could experience a hot shower, clean room, and clean sheets. I asked at Casa de Cafe, but they were booked, so owner Howard offered me a room at Terramaya (same owners). It was a little slice of heaven. The rooms are extremely clean, and beautifully decorated. The staff takes great care from the moment you arrive, offering coffee, tea, hot cocoa, etc. Even the night watchman who doesn't speak English is very friendly & accomodating. Breakfast is excellent, and served in the lovely little garden. My room had a little patio area with a hammock.

I only have a few negative comments. The TV is quite small for the room size, so if watching TV is important (but why would it be when you are traveling?), you may be unhappy. Also, the hotel still gets a lot of street noise, so it is not always truly a peaceful oasis. My first night the neighbors in the adjoining building were quite loud; the second night was much better. If it was on a quieter street this place could be pure bliss.

If you want a spot that is nicer than the average Central American hotel, this is your spot. If you are into more basic hotels, this may be far more than you want or need.

Room Tip: The 1st floor rooms facing the street have a private patio (very nice!), but get street noise. Room...

This hotel was awesome. It was more expensive than most in the area $79/night for two people. But the place was awesome. The rooms were extremely clean and the staff was friendly and welcoming. We arrived around 8pm and they gave us a map (not that it was needed the town is rather small) and helped us find a place to eat comida tipico. We ate breakfast at the hotel in the morning which was delicous and the fresh coffee..mmmm..They also had complimentary dvds to use in the rooms which was nice after an afternoon exploring the town. I would definitley recommend this hotel!!

We really felt at home at the Terramaya. Mariana took great care of us during our stay. We were in room #3 with one queen and one double bed. The room and bathroom were spacious. Our room had a small safe, A/C, ceiling fan, and a desk as well as wireless access in the room/lobby. The hotel offers iced tea, coffee, hot chocolate and hot tea all day. It was great spending mornings and evenings on the patio with a garden and mountain view. A full breakfast was included in the rate and served on the patio. We had omelettes, pancakes, fresh fruit, fresh baked bread, coffee and tea. You must try the lemongrass tea. Mariana actually went in the garden to cut the lemongrass for the tea. The only downsize one might have is the hotel is at the top of a steep hill. I enjoyed the exercise but you can always get a Tuk Tuk to drop you off in front of the hotel for $1 US/$20 lemipira.

Our visit to Terramaya started a month before we arrived. Communicating with Howard and Andrea prior to our visit made our stay so much more pleasant. Our itinerary was planned with plenty of free time. The hotel was a sight for sore eyes and feet. The rooms were tastefully decorated and are cleaned twice a day. Breakfast on the terrace created a wonderful ambience and started the day off just right. Can't say enough about the staff. Thanks!!!

Room Tip: A room not facing the street would probably be a better choice
