I had a great time at hacienda la esperanza. It's nicer than most places in town. The property is gated and super safe. Pam and Rodger do a wonderful job at making all of their guests feel at home. Not only do you get 5 star service, the money made from the B&B goes straight to a clinic right at the entrance to the hacienda (tax deductible). The food is wonderful. You can flush your toilette paper. The landscaping is filled with tropical flowers and banana trees. If you are planning to visit just out of leisure you might want to consider riding with Pam and Rodger on one of their volunteer runs. They do amazing work in villages surrounding Copan Ruinas.

I've traveled a lot in Latin America, and I consider Hacienda la Esperanza to be a special spot to stay. Located on the outskirts of Copan Ruinas, Honduras, it is a beautiful, Spanish colonial-style B&B with a relaxed, homey feel. It's a 10 minute walk from the center of town (or a 3 minute Tuk-tuk ride), so it's very convenient while being much quieter than most hotels in town. Rather than the noise of traffic, you awaken to the sound of the fountain and the birds in the trees. The four guest rooms are located around a patio with a great view. The hacienda is very clean and safe, the beds are comfortable, the showers are hot, and the breakfasts are delicious. Hosts Pam and Rodger are gracious and are the source of much information about the area, as they have been involved in the local community for a long time. They seem to know everyone in town and are quick to recommend a good restaurant or an especially good guide at the ruins. They also run Paramedics for Children, which has built a clinic for the poor and provides school supplies to all of the small rural schools in the area. All money raised by stays at the Hacienda goes to support the work of Paramedics for Children, so you can enjoy a great place to stay and know that you are helping the people of the area as well. For a really unique experience that gets you off the tourist trail, I suggest contacting Paramedics for Children (www.paramedicsforchildren.com) to learn about the opportunity to interact with local children through their projects with the local schools. I recommend this hotel and the organization that runs it very highly.

The rooms are comfortable, breakfast is good, Roger and Pam are good company, and Marco Tulio and Tony take good care of the facility and the guests. The HLE architecture and furnishings are works of art. HLE is located just outside of town, quiet, yet convenient.

My friend and I stopped by Copan for one night and decided to stay at La Hacienda with Pam and Rodger because we read on WikiTravel that the money paid for the room goes directly to their nonprofit Parademics for Children, plus there were so many great reviews. We were very happy with our choice and it exceeded our expectations. It's in a great location, close to the Copan Ruins and to the town centre, although you need a ride both ways that shouldn't cost you more than $1, or Pam and Rodger offer you a ride depending on the time. Since we stayed out a bit late, we put a deposit for our own key and took an autorickshaw back to the hacienda from the town center (just remember to ask for paramedics for children, which is how most of the town knows it).

Pam and Rodger were so hospitable and friendly, it was like coming home after you've been away for a long time. As soon as we got there, they offered us food and settled us in... that night we sat with them and they shared their story and the significance of their paintings, which is from a local artist. The room is great and spacious.

They also told us about volunteer trips that travellers can take part of with them and we definitely want to come back to do that and stay with them. We would definitely recommend this place, they made Copan feel so warm and friendly.

Pam and Rodger Harrison treat you like royalty, but make you feel like family. Kid friendly dogs add to the ambiance. The hacienda's garden like location is far enough from the hustle and bustle to be peaceful and quiet, yet not so far away that you have do more than grab a 2 minute tuk tuk ride to the main square. Shower was great and the food was terrific!
