Yat B'alam Boutique Hotel
Ranked #5 of 21 Hotels in Copan
Reviewed January 11, 2012

I read about this beautiful Hotel Boutique here on TA and I had the fortune of visiting Copan this December. It was simply marvelous. The people are soo nice, they have the perfect little coffee shop down stairs in which they serve the BEST moccachino and the BEST Carrot cake I've ever tasted. Also for the tourist you can find some artesan stores with really neat hand crafted things perfect for your home or gift. A very romantic place just nearby the town plaza

Rina is a wonderful host, she welcomed us with an enormous smile, knew exactly who we were when we arrived, and went out of her way to make us comfortable! She armed us with maps, good directions to the ruins, the right price for a ride back in a taxi, and the right price for a guide.

The cafe downstairs does great food, (recommend the pita de pollo and cakes)

Yat Balam is a lovely quiet hotel with spotless rooms, the best showers i had in central america (better than in other hotels i stayed that were four times the price). I was slightly sceptical about all the positive reviews on tripadvisor, particularly given the hotel didn't feature in any of the guide books, but this scepticism was entirely unfounded, and if anything to our benefit as they had rooms available.

Room Tip: rooms 1 and 2 are nicer with views to the hills, private balconies and sofas (which can be made up a...

This hotel is truly perfect. It is beautiful and comfortable! The rooms have great air conditioners, excellent bathrooms, and very comfy beds. Make sure you leave time to shop in the fabulous gift shops and have a cup of coffee in the cafe. Wish we could have stayed longer!

What a little diamond in the rough! By this I mean not only the hotel but also the people who work there! This is an amazing hotel and you truly feel welcomed when you stay here. Our room was very rustic, charming and clean. Mostly it was the personal touch. After arrival, I realized that I left behind my Kindle on the bus from San Pedro. Calls were made on my behalf and my Kindle was returned to me.

There is a boutique on site that sells nice souvenirs, perhaps a bit pricier than other shops but definitely better quality.

I tried hard to find something wrong with this beautiful hotel but found nothing. It was beautiful, spotless, excellent furniture, clean linens - absolutely great. Rena was very pleasant. My spanish is about 60% and I really enjoyed talking to her. She helped us plan our days and in general everyone there was very nice. The cafe attached to the hotel is EXCELLENT as well. Great spot for breakfast. 10 min walk to the ruins. 10 min walk to the bus station. Right in the middle of everything and safe to walk the streets even on your own. Plus there is a market just across the street. Absolutely perfect! I highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Room #2 fits 4 adults comfortably with a queen bed and two large singles.

We located Yat B'alam on Tripadvisor and could not have made a better selection! The owners are so friendly and helpful not only with assisting us with locating our tour guide, Julio Melendez,,( who has worked on the Copan Archaeological site with the archaeological teams), but with general aid and directions. Rate this hotel five stars!

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor room with balcony.

We stayed in Yat Balam for 2 nights whilst visiting the ruins of Copan and Yat Balam is by far the cleanest, nicest and most comfortable hotel we stayed in during our 10 days of travelling in Guatemala and Honduras.
The hotel in a 2 minute walk to the Parque Central in Copan and literally a few steps from some goods restaurants and bars. Its also only about a 5-10 minute tuk tuk ride to the ruins and some other attractions around Copan.
There is a supermarket right across the road and Balam cafe serves up some very good coffee and breakfast.
Rina, who runs the place is really helpful with all queries and is an absolute joy.
There isnt too much to do in Copan itself so coming back to Yat Balam to just chill out in the balcony was an absolute joy!
