It is on the cays away from the Utila. So it is very peaceful spot to get away. Everyone on the cays is nice and warm. The deck is perfect for star gazing. I spend a whole week there doing nothing except diving. Unbelievable getaway trip from the busy life.

The instructor and dive master (DM Mike) are fantastic. They are knowledgeable, responsible and fun to dive with. I am very very happy to dive with them for a week. Let them know what you want to see and they will show you. :) Mike has magic on Shark. He can call them for you. Hoho~~

The hotel has kitchen so you can cook yourself fresh caught fish. There are also lots of restaurant near by for you to choose.

In all, I strongly recommend this dive shop as well as the hotel to anyone who are interested in diving and enjoy quiet peaceful get away vocation.

We just went out for snorkeling on one of the UCD dive trips, OMG! what an experience!! DM Miquel "Mike" brought a huge amount of knowledge and pure joy for his job! His excitement was highly contagious. DM Bogdan is a friendly, welcoming presence who is obviously very concerned about the preservation of the wonders that surround Utila. He, too, has vast experience and knowledge that he enjoys sharing. I highly recommend this crew!! Captain Edgar was also friendly and more than capable. These are great guys who will take care of you, share their knowledge with you and infect you with their enthusiasm. And the cinnamon buns were a great added bonus! I am getting more and more interested in obtaining scuba certification and this trip may have made that opportunity more than I can resist! Thank you, thank you, Bogden, Mike and Edgar! The trip was just a BLAST!!!!!!!!!

This was the second trip to Utila for my husband and I. In 2009, we went diving with Bogdan when he was working with another dive shop. We kept in touch with him on Facebook over the years, and when we were planning another trip to Honduras, we found out that he and his fiancé, Katherine, had started their own dive shop, UCD.
We stayed for 5 nights at Hotel Kayla on Jewel Cay and had such an amazing time! Bogdan and Katherine were great hosts, showing us around the little island, letting us know where to get the best meals and the best cinnamon rolls. :) The diving and snorkelling sites that Bodgan picked out for us were beautiful, and we loved hearing all the stories from Captain Edgar about his experiences on the water. They are all very knowledgeable about the island and about the sea life around Utila. They make sure that you have a great day out - We had great snacks on board, great equipment, and we never felt rushed at the dive sites.
We felt right at home and had such a relaxing week. If we come back to Utila again, we would definitely dive with UCD again! They're the best!!

After having a previous incredible experience with UCD, we couldn't resist returning to our happy place. This time we just went for fun dives, and oh what fun we had! Everything I wrote about in the previous review still applies, but the most significant changes to our last visit were the additions of DM Mike and Captain Edgar. Bogdan and Katherine couldn't have picked two nicer, more professional people to add to their team.

In contrast to many DMs on Utila who tend to be fresh out of their training with less than 100 dives, Mike is an incredibly experienced DM. He has been diving since before we were born, and has a very strong knowledge of all the sites we visited and marine life that we saw. Despite the fact that he dives every day, he acts like a kid in a candy store every time he gets in the water. No mopey hungover attitude from this guy! He was always up at the crack of dawn, made a fresh pot of coffee for the guests, and was off to set up the equipment for the day. We would lazily get out of bed, have a cup of coffee and some fresh banana bread baked on the cays, and walk down to the boat where our equipment would be already set up and loaded on the boat. This really highlights a major difference between the operation that Bogdan and Katherine run compared to most/all of the other shops in Utila (we've dived with some of those shops too in the past). Yes it costs more to dive with UCD, but they take care of EVERYTHING. And, there is no time limit to the fun dives. You stay down as long as you want, nitrogen and air levels permitting. We did not do a dive less than 70 minutes during the whole week we were there. Money well spent!!

Captain Edgar is the other new member of the team, and he is a local who has lived on the Cays his whole life. He knows the Utila waters better than anybody, and exudes confidence and friendliness. His job may be to just drive the boat, but he always went above and beyond. He was always willing to lend a helping hand by putting the scuba gear on your back, helping everyone in and out of the water, and anything else that needed to be done to make us comfortable.

I really can't imagine why anyone would dive with another dive shop in Utila. Bogdan and Katherine have the winning formula, and you are guaranteed to have a blast with them. Can't wait to go back!

If your criteria for an exceptional dive vacation includes a dive operation committed to providing the best service, attention to detail, safety while being adventurous, premium education and individualized attention, Utila Cays Diving will exceed all expectations. Although we were there for fun dives we were able to witness Katherine and Bogdan teaching OW and Specialty courses while delivering the ultimate experience for us with our Divemaster Michael (AKA Miguel). I have worked in the dive industry for 10+years as an Instructor and Dive Shop Manager and now travel and dive for fun and I can unequivocally recommend Utila Cays Diving as one of the best vacation experiences I have encountered. If you can dive with Utila Cays Diving do not miss the opportunity. The diving is among the best we have encountered, the walls and reefs abundant with life and we saw something remarkable on every dive!
