“A little boring”
Review of Gumbalimba Park

We booked this trip based on the monkey encounter reviews. The park was pretty but boring to us and kind of small. We got to hold a parrot but you can do that in a pet shop. The monkeys were reluctant to come out but finally they arrived. However, the tours overlapped and not everyone got to hold one for a photo. My daughter was disappointed of course. At the end, the tour guide offered to take a few of us back to hold the monkeys but then decided not to after getting our hopes up. Afterward they take you to a beach where everything is overpriced. I cannot recommend this tour. Boring, overpriced, and disappointing.

We really enjoyed having macaw's and monkeys sit on our shoulder and getting the chance to take some photos. The park itself was very well layed out and beautiful and set on a nice beach that you could enjoy as well. Very lush and the suspension bridge was fun walking across and looking down at the turtles. Lots of iguana's and we had never seen Roatan Guatusa Rabbits (looks like a mix between rabbit, pig, and guinnea pig).

We opted to go to the park on a "non-cruise-ship" day in order to avoid the crowds. Perfect...no lines, great tours. But at the end of the zip lines and tours, when we were hot and sweaty, the rest of the park was closed. No pool, no cold drinks, no food. The close this part of the park on no-ship days. We were really disappointed in this and wished that we'd been told.

Gorgeous grounds and booked our tour through Murphy's tours.

The monkeys are very accessible and the macaws are abundant. Beach is clean but a few kids selling items but not pushy. Pool is also available for swimming which was clean and warm. Food is available for sale as well as beer and cold drinks. Prices are around $4 u.s.

Cruise ship tours are large and move quickly through each station. I guess so they can get you back on the bus and take you shopping. Our guide was a young kid still in school and didn't say much, but as we had young kids it worked for us.

If you book with Murphy you will have a private guide and not feel rushed as the big cruise ship passenger groups did.

My family and I loved this park and especially loved the monkeys. They were just precious and sat on our shoulders. Enjoyed the birds as well and as the guides were very nice. My son did the canopy tour and had a great time. It was a bit rainy and overcast so we had the beach to ourselves. I would highly recommend visiting while in Roatan.
