This is a great place to stay. The Food is excellent. We only ate breakfast and dinner as it was simply to much. The Staff is just the greatest. Friendly, helpful and professional. They are the best part of the place. We did some diving, swimming, kayaking, snorkeling and lots of scrabble. Just a very fun place and a great value.

Room Tip: Check with hotel staff to understand how the AC works.

We had a great time.
The resort is very nice and is as close as it can be to what reviews say it is.(Isn't usually the case)
The staff are great and are very prompt and always smiling.
They set us up in the bar area for a candle light dinner Saturday evening for our honeymoon dinner. They couldn't stop apologizing because they were going to set us up on the beach but it was way too windy.
We were in the "top" rooms which are 49 stairs up. We liked the excersise but some may not. Our room was typical/ basic and cleaned daily and we had no complaints about it.
There are some great excursions to go on and everyone we talked to had enjoyed them. There is a dive shop on site and they are taking divers back and forth all day. A lot of the people staying here are divers.
We chose an excursion to West Bay on Wednesday to Paradise Beach resort to see what that resort and area was like. The beach has a nicer softer sand and the snorkeling there is awesome. The reef is just meters from shore at one end of the beach. The snorkeling at Turquoise is limited as the reef is a km or so from shore.
The resort(PB) looked nice but when we met up with those people at the airport that stayed there were mixed reviews on the Paradise Beach Resort. From not being able to get a coffee between breakfast and lunch without having to pay(nickel and diming was the common term used) to the beach being too busy when the ships come in. But for the most part I think it was enjoyed.
We went to Mahogany Bay(port) for a few hours when the ships Carnival Legend and Conquest was in and hit the shops for some gifts for the kids. It was a few hours of shopping for a 10each cab ride. It was ok. We ended up bringing back Mark Hawkins(ship comedian) because he had missed his ship. Apparently Turquoise Bay is the resort they use to accom their fly ons because there was another fly on staying there the night before waiting for the ship.
There was one bar and the bartenders and waiters waitresses were good and always smiling. Its mostly beer and rum drinks from what we saw and watch out for the rum drinks they pack a punch.(1, 2, 3 - floor)
There was one eating area with an outdoor seating and an inside seating.
Breakfast was served buffet style from 7-9am with fruit, juice, toast and eggs prepared whichever way you pleased. Coffee was usually good but a couple days it tasted a little weak. It was perked.
Lunch was 12-2 buffet style and usually had beef or chicken or fish or seafood or a combination of all with fries or some noodles and fruit and salad.
Dinners were good and 5 of the nights served buffet style and 2 a la carte. There was usually a selection of beef, seafood, chicken and pork with side dishes and salads.
The food was good and I think I only herd one person complain because they thought there were too many carbs which was not the case.
We have been to big resorts where the buffets are huge and look fancy but don't have half the taste the food at Turquoise Bay did.
The pool is small but big enough for the resort (26 rooms). We had it to ourselves a few times. They use it for scuba training a fair bit too but didn't seem to be a bother or get in anyone's way. I tried a scuba lesson in the pool myself and my instructor, Matt, was a confident and relaxing instructor.
The beach is good and man made. Never a lack of loungers. The waiters start showing up shortly after 10 for drink orders. The sand is just soft enough for bare feet.(Much softer at West Bay) The swimming at the beach is ok and as I said the snorkeling is limited. There are kayaks to use as many people did. We found some starfish and sea horses out by the mangrove island.
The "no see ems" are ferocious at this resort and apparently everywhere on the island. People (including ourselves) were covered in bites! The bites look nasty with a red area of almost a dime with a little bite out of the middle. This even had a guest or two questioning bed bugs because they couldn't remember getting bit. That's why they call them no see ems. We didn't see anyone spraying the grounds for them all week which would be a suggestion if there is a spray/pesticide for them. We found the best defense to be skin so soft but not fully effective. Maybe 95 percent. Maybe these are bad during the rainy season(Oct to mid Feb) but not sure.
Wifi is free throughout and accessible from almost everywhere on the resort.
We went not knowing what to expect and had a great time, made some new friends and got a great Roa-Tan! We had 7 days of hot sun with a couple short showers. Last week of Jan.
You need to make sure where ever you are staying on the island has a generator! When a storm is coming or it gets windy they shut the power off on the entire island for a couple hours or until the storm passes. We had this a couple times when it got windy but they had the generator switched on within a min or two of the power out. Bring a flashlight.
Overall we enjoyed ourselves and had a great honeymoon and would recommend this resort to people.
The staff are all very friendly, accommodating and smiling.
Our sunwing rep Catherine was prompt and helpful and easily accessible.

We just returned from spending a week at Turquoise Bay. I was there to dive, and my wife to relax. The rooms were reasonably modern and very tastefully furnished - comfortable beds! This is a very comfortable place to stay, the grounds must be 40 acres for only 26 rooms. It is a ways to town, but we really didn't feel the need to leave. The service was incredible!!! All of the staff were very friendly and personable - there are many establishments that could learn from their excellent customer service. Thank you to: Seyda, Pablo, Daisy, Edwin, Lourdes, Kurbie and everyone else whose name we didn't learn! I spent 5 mornings diving with the on-site shop: Subway Watersports. Also, excellent, friendly, knowledgeable staff, and boats were safe and in good shape. We definitely hope for a return visit in the future!

My family and our friends stayed st Turquoise Bay for a period of 7 days during the Christmas Holidays (2013) and had a great time at this small resort, apparently manged by locals.
The resort is isolated so you will not see a lot of traffic from cruise ships, other resorts and etc.
The food is homemade and the drinks are excellent. The greatest asset of this little resort is its staff. They are kind, helpful, wonderful and caring. The dive shop is managed independently and we really enjoyed having Stephanie as our dive master. The reef is only about one mile from the resort and the water quality was excellent on the calm, sunny days. We were not impressed with the swimming pool at all. The resort needs to build at least two new pools. One for training divers and another for swimming/sunbathing. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay.

Just returned from a weeks vacation at Turquoise Bay Resort (Jan 25 - Feb 1, 2014). As many have already said, the Staff are the single most impressive asset of the resort. The resort does show some wear and tear around the edges, which is to be expected at ANY resort. For example, the light globe on the fan in room 4 was missing, so the lighting was a bit stark. Some of us did experience some plumbing issues (i.e. Toilet tank not shutting off). However, as far as I/m concerned, there were no major deficiencies. Construction was still on going at the new dock located on the right side of the resort. The decking should be finished by now, so I would expect whatever other structures are planned for the dock will be completed in short order. I was surprised to learn that the on-site 24hr Security Guards are armed with pistols, which is both reassuring and disconcerting at the same time. On the one hand, it was good to know they take security seriously, on the other hand a bit concerning that this level of security is needed in the first place. Then again the resort is surrounded by jungle and many locals appear to live in poverty. Meals were plentiful and healthy. Lots of fruit and veggies and the main courses were tasty. I had no complaints about the food. In fact, I ate 3 meals a day and still managed to come home a couple pounds lighter! The local entertainment was pretty good. One night had a Fire Dancer troupe, another night had local dancers with drums, and a singer with key board our final night. The beach had suffered a bit of erosion due to the rainy season but each day there was someone spreading new sand to keep the beach up to par. The one suggestion I'd make is that if possible, the Resort should consider acquiring some of the land on the back side of the resort and create a 'nature' walk through the local forrest/jungle.

My wife an I just returned from a week at Turquoise Bay, Roatan, Honduras. We had a very enjoyable week, which would have been much better if the weather had cooperated. Our plan was to just relax for a week after a very busy holiday season. Turquoise Bay fit the bill precisely. Situated on the north coast it is rather remote. There are no other hotels or restaurants nearby, and the busy West End is at least a 45 minute drive away. Being a very small resort (26 rooms) you won't have any big crowds.
We are divers, but chose to not dive on this vacation. The divers at the resort seemed to be very happy with Subway Sports, located on the property. There isn't any shore diving, or any snorkeling close to the shore. There was a boat owner taking people out to snorkel on the reef near the resort for a small fee.
Because we had a lot of rain the week we were there the resort was unable to spray for the sand flies that seem to be everywhere in Roatan. Be sure to take your repellant! They are nasty little critters that love human flesh. We used Skin-so-soft with Picaridin with very limited success.
I can't say enough about the friendliness of the staff. Everyone was very helpful and made you feel welcome. The food was very good, if somewhat limited. Being a small resort you won't have the huge buffets like at an Iberostar, Sandals, or Riu. Some meals were buffet, and some off a menu, depending on the number of guests. Always well prepared, and an adequate selection.

Room Tip: The rooms were very nice, all of the plumbing worked, and the AC was excellent. If you want a good...

we loved our stay at Turquoise Bay! The staff always looked after us, and we had a great time. The kayaks they offer were fun, go to the island to the left - it's beautiful once you get there! The food was unbelievable. I'm positive I gained about 5 kilos while there, beacuse it was just so delicious! And if you were hungry between meals (not possible!) you could ask them to make you a snack!
I loved it there!
