If you want to get away from the crowd on the ship, take the day and go over to Little French Key. We were concerned that we would not really have enough time to fully enjoy it but we certainly did. It's laid back and small and calm and restful so the time seems to expand. We took our own snorkel gear and enjoyed some simple snorkeling right there around the Key. (I would take bug spray- regardless of where you go in Honduras.) The water was beautiful. The food was simply divine. The folks that own the island are precious- kind, thoughtful, considerate. Make sure that you ask people where to find the driver. You have to go out, up a small hill and then down- not far- to find many of the independent operators. Just keep asking locals and they will keep pointing you and are very nice about it, even competitor tour guides. On the way back to the ship, they can take you right in to the good drop off area. Bizarre but true. My husband I were there with my daughter and her baby along with my son and his wife. They kayaked and read books and did all kinds of things. It was a great day.
