My husband and I have traveled to nearly every Caribbean Island via cruise ship. Roatan is unsurpassed in diving, snorkeling, food, and relaxation! If you plan to visit, use Roatan Anglers and be SURE to catch a fish! Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, Barracuda, Sail Fish, and Wahoo ---Lonnie not only puts us on the fish at the right place and the right time, we saw a whale shark while fishing, a massive school of dolphins, and sailfish jump! He is "the Best!" Ask for him at West END, everyone knows him.
His wife Cynthia was gracious enough to cook our catch of the day for us, and we ate it on the beach in a grass hut. Her cooking is top secret -- she will not reveal her spices, but it is amazing! Quite walks on the beach, great security, snorkeling at 5 am for hours each day right off the beach! You will see every fish you ever dreamed of seeing -- and so many you have never seen. The beach is clean, safely guarded by security, and restaurants and bars boast the best deals with top shelf liquor.
If you want an Island Tour, call Cynthia at Roatan Anglers. She knows the Island inside and out - -and will take you to the REAL tour places. We were treated to ancient African history, the art of conch shell carving (exquisite!), fishing, beaches, you name it!
Roatan has zip lining, world class diving and fishing, snorkeling, and peace.
The people are warm, delightfully open, very intelligent, and very talented.
You can stay in a 5-star hotel – but we encourage you to try Los Rocas, a charming cluster of cabins on the beach front. Clean, efficient, comfortable and inexpensive.
If you think you have, “seen it all” and have not been to Roatan, you are in for a real treat!
If “party” is the game, let the water taxi take you to the West End. For a few dollars each way, travel in style. So much fun!

went into Mahogany bay with carnival and did the private island snorkelling trip. I must admit that if I had known how lovely the beach is at Mahogany Bay we would have stayed there and saved the money however the private Island trip was great. It only takes about 15 minutes by boat and the Island is great with a quiet lovely beach, good bar with free drinks and good lunch included. There is also a good swimming pool and kids pool bear the bar. The snorkelling was very good and the staff were friendly.

One of the very best side trips on our recent 7 day cruise was our snorkeling trip to Half Moon Bay in the West End. It is located at the Half Moon Resort - a small beach area with steps to access the water. The snorkeling was great and there was a boat off shore with a rope swing for those that wanted to swing and jump into the water. The water was crystal clear, there were shade trees, snorkeling equipment, and chairs available. A restaurant and bar were steps away. I decided to take up one of the locals giving massages and had my neck and shoulders rubbed for ten minutes. The local charge is one dollar per minute and you decide how long! Everyone was very friendly. Our cab driver was Sonia Pandy (sonia@roatan.wn) and she took us and picked us up when we were ready to head back. We can't wait to return!

Last year we toured several citys in Honduras.
We really enjoyed the craft market in SanPedro Sula.
Last stop was Roatan!! We stayed in one of the economical motels at the beach which was 2 feet from our door.
Later we took the Norwegian Cruise Line to visit Belize. The town looked like a city slum.
But we chose this trip as we could return to Roatan to West Side where we ate by the beach. And later we had bargained with the taxi to take us to the luxurious West End.And we're cruising again in ////////feb. 2013 to include Roatan.
We've traveled to more than 100 countries but we liked the low prices for everything, use of US dollar,English widely spoken ON THE ISLAND.

During our November 2012 Western Caribbean cruise we stopped at Roatan. Of all the Cruise port shopping, by far this port had the best shopping for real and unique souvenir items. Be careful however, if you plan on giving blood upon your return. The entire set of islands is listed as a malaria risk. I am not now eligible to give blood for one year. Belize, other than Belize City may also be a problem with future blood donations.
