“Extremely mellow and relaxing with loads of activities”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

Extremely mellow and relaxing with loads of activities is what I think best describes Upachaya Eco-Resort. The grounds are quite, absolutely private and beautiful with great snorkeling and diving. I will be returning there rather than to some other larger resorts. This is my kind of place and likely yours unless your looking for lots of people, noise and confusion which I experienced elsewhere. The owner Barbara is a super friendly host and is extremely helpful in organizing whatever it is you wish to do. Although it does not have its own restaurant I did not find that to be any inconvenience whatsoever. The are many restaurants within a short Taxi ride which is easy and no hassle and very cheap.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are great.

My wife surprised me for my birthday with a night at Upachaya and it truly is a hidden gem on Roatan. The grounds are gorgeous from the hilltop all the way down to the waters edge. The room was great and very comfortable. The pool was done with great craftsmanship and is most relaxing. To top off the night Barb, the host, prepared an amazing four course meal. Barb went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely escape back to Upachaya again soon.

My husband & I booked a shore excursion of Kayaking & Snorkeling at Upachaya. When you first pull in it looks a little scary but just a few moments later you're in a tranquil island paradise. Barb (the proprietor) immediately greeted us and made us feel welcome in her home. The day we were there, it was just the 2 of us. Edgar our guide, was wonderful! Luncheon and chat with Barb was delicious and informative. Everything went off like clockwork. Fun (exhausting!) afternoon!

The first thing you will notice when you arrive is how quiet it is. We stayed in a beautiful room. Big king size bed with great linens. Barb made us snacks and the most romantic candle light dinner for my husbands birthday. including mango pie. We didn't go on the snorkeling tour as we just went to relax. The pool area is a very calming place. We took a yoga class the next morning, our first and it was fun. Barb is very knowledgeable about all the fruits and trees on the property. Ask her to show you around. We really enjoyed our time here, thanks Barb.

Room Tip: We stayed in the end room and it was quiet.

We booked a day trip for snorkeling along the beautiful coral reef and shelf adjacent to the Upachaya Resort. The transport from the Carnival pier to to the resort was flawless and the snorkeling spectacular! We highly recommend this day trip and plan to visit the resort for an extened stay as soon as we can make it happen. Great staff, great food, great snorkeling!

Upachaya was a great place for my friends and I to stay during our first nights ever in Roatan. The rooms, pool and dining areas are all beautifully built. It has a peaceful and comfortable feel to it; almost like a bed&breakfast. Barb is an incredibly nice hostess and an AMAZING cook. I would probably go back for the food alone! There is no beach to walk to but Barb has a driver who can inexpensively take you wherever you would like to go. Very friendly and trustworthy. I would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.

Upachaya is a wonderful little place surrounded by trees, tropical plants and the bay. The grounds were beautiful. Barb and the staff were beyond accommodating, making sure your stay is peaceful and serene. The food was incredible. Cannot say enough good things about this place, definitely a steal for the price!
