For several years a highlight of the East Coast Canoe and Kayak Festival has been attending Michael Gray's exciting presentations of past Uncommon Adventures and dreaming of an adventure of our own. That dream came true for my wife and me in Roatan.
The freshest and most imaginative five star meals, wonderful scenery and snorkeling, kayaking adventures beyond compare- all without the challenges of camping! What more could you want? Only one thing I can think of...return trips to experience more UNCOMMON ADVENTURES!
Longing for our next trip with Michael,
Tillman in SC

First trip: A week on Roatan, Honduras; warm water paddling at its best. Michael plans everything, cooks only fresh local products, and does so with perfection. I couldn't believe it. He was buying sea food from spear fisherman right off the end of the dock! The cabin was wonderful, the sound of surf in the distance was great, and this was the most relaxing trip I've ever taken. I'm about to go back for more.

Second trip: Ferry from Charlevoix MI to the Beaver Island archipelago on Lake Michigan, with three nights of camping, four days of paddling. This more primitive trip gave Michael a chance to showcase his reputation as a back country chef. He is famous for this skill area, and literally "wrote the book."

Third trip: A full week of paddling and camping in Isle Royale National Park that is actually closer to the Canadian north shore of Lake Superior than Michigan where we met for the ferry departure. Changing weather conditions and the companionship that develops from such a trip makes this one a favorite. Each day was different, but the friendships remain the same. As always, all preparation was expertly accomplished in advance, and Michael actually fished for our dinners. He is expert with a line, and expert when he prepares the catch of the day. It can't be better than this!

Beautiful weather, great kayaking conditions, and fabulous meals. It doesn't get much better than this. We spent 7 days kayaking the NW coast of Prince of Wales Island with Michael Gray and local guide, Patty Holley. As usual, Michael puts out quite the spread of food, had first rate gear, and provided instruction for those who were interested. I would definitely recommend this trip to any intermediate kayaker who wants to experience SE Alaska.

Atlanta and New York girlfriends get together every summer for a vacation envolving paddling, hiking and friendship. Boy did we not go wrong in 2011. A week with Michael Gray owner of Uncommon Adventures and Andi his assistant guide was more than we could have imagined. 3 days of beautiful turquoise water, paddling throught the Mangroves, viewing all kind of wild life, snorkeling, sleeping in beautiful cabins and delicious island food, believe it or not, was not the best. The next three days had us waking up in the canopy of the rainforest. Sunrise overlooking the mountains and listining to all the natural sounds of the forest and all it's beautiful birds. An organized outing every day and not a thing to worry about. Michael took care of all the details. We did nothing but enjoy and relax. If you want a vacation where everything is planned out for you, this is the one.

Michael Gray of Uncommon Adventures put together an outstanding itinerary for three of us that included kayaking snorkeling and bird watching. Having paddled with him before I knew I would be safe in any situation and fed as only a great restaurant could do it. But his greatest skill was fending off Murphy's Law. The day we were to go to Pico Bonito the wing blew so hard that our ferry could not leave the harbor. Plan B came into effect but the airport was not open in La Ceiba. He then let us hike in a nature preserve while he rearranged the whole itinerary. No matter what happened he came through! The birding at Omega lodge was great he even arranged for the owner to take two of us on a sunrise hike. Murphy again reared his head, the worst storm of the season started at night and did not let up until noon. Michael showed us a place to watch all the birds under cover, and rearranged the hike in the rainforest. The next leg of the trip was to Cayo Cochino for kayaking and snorkeling. Unbelievable that in all the adversity he still made everything happen. If you go with him you won't have to worry about anything, he's that good.
