The beach is nice but don't forget to walk the grounds, this place is absolutely gorgeous!! Trails are nicely groomed and the plants are so lush they look fake. Fun animals to see, the birds and monkeys are not in cages so you can get great pictures. Bar sells anything you need and plays music. Beach was clean, pool was clean. Nice bathroom/changing facilities with lockers. We just left our belongings on a beach chair all day, as did most other guests.

We went to Maya Key expecting it to be pretty much the typical "beach resort" type of excursion, as the RCL "Mariner of the Seas" didn't have a lot of information on the excursion. The price looked good compared to a few other excursions that were available ($62 per person), and it included a day at the beach, lunch, and snorkeling.

What wasn't mentioned in much detail was the replica of the Mayan Ruins and the small museum/exhibit that was there. Nor was there much information given about the Jaguars, Ocelots, Parrots, Macaws, Sea Turtles, Sea Lions and other animals that are "on exhibit" there as part of their rescue & recovery. Knowing that we got a day of relaxation as well as were helping with that made this a good trip!

The boat was available right at the pier where we docked in Roatan, and it was less than a 15 minute boat ride to the island (we were able to see the Mariner from the dock on the island).

I'd recommend it for a family, as there is a little something for everyone.

(Oh, don't forget the bug spray! They have sand fleas & "no-see-ums" that will leave little red welts that go away after about 6 hours...)...

My wife and I went here on our honeymoon cruise. We loved it there! We talk about it all the time. We had no idea Honduras would be so beautiful. ...and Maya Key Island...oh my...IT WAS PERFECT! We snorkeled....relaxed...it was so quiet. It felt good to get away from people for a bit. We both agree that this is our favorite spot so far...it's a neat little little island. Take the excursion...you won't regret it. :)

I just got off a western Caribbean cruise that stopped in Roatan and had booked Maya Key through NCL. According to my research, Maya Key is reserved strictly for cruise line passengers at this point, and cannot be booked directly. We docked at Coxen Hole, and were met on the same pier as our ship by a small boat waiting to take us to Maya Key. Unfortunately for us, the skies opened up when we disembarked the NCL Star, and did not let up until late that afternoon after we had already left Maya Key. I'm not talking light rain you can work around, I'm talking monsoon rain that soaks you to the skin through your clothes. Despite the weather, we really enjoyed our day at Maya Key. The staff was all friendly, spoke perfect english, and seemed really invested in making sure we were enjoying ourselves, right down to drying off the tables and chairs repeatedly so we could shelter a bit from the storm. I did take the tour through the animal sanctuary (fortunately I had brought a waterproof camera!) and the guide was not only informative, but really seemed involved with the care of the animals. She didn't just know their names and species, she knew how they came to live at the sanctuary, what their personalities were like, what other animals they got along with - just an impressive tour. We did walk by the beach and checked out the pool, which all seemed lovely. I've heard their snorkeling is excellent, and I can vouch for their food. Lunch was absolutely delicious! Fried sea bass, barbecue chicken, rice, salad, plantain chips - all excellent! We will definitely give it another shot when we end up in Roatan again.

we enjoyed the rescue animal tour, great coral snorkeling, beach and large mayan ruin replicas. Everything is close and clean. y ou can rent swim equipment. the gift shop is lovely. We did not enjoy the bites from sand fleas. We coudn't see them. The bites lasted days and bled. We used deet but didn't put it on our backs. That is where they bit us. We sat on chairs with towels which probably helped. We would go again but next time avoid the shade and use deet over the whole body.
