We spent 5 nights here March 16-21, from check in to check out we felt welcomed here. We had room 3, just steps away from the water, we never even ad to use a sun lounger, just grab our gear and walk down the steps, perfect!
We met fellow Canadians, and Europeans all like minded folks who were enjoying the island and the wonderful hospitality that only family run small resorts can provide.
There was a gentleman on site Marvin Rosales who took us out on a snorkel of Blue Channel, and Spooky Channel. Go with him! He has very good English , and gets in the water and points thing out to you. Blue channel is amazing, the vistas are breath taking.
The restaurant had good food, the coconut shrimp was the best! The Monkey LaLa was really refreshing! We enjoyed at least one every evening.
The staff responded to my emails very quickly, and arranged a taxi pick up for us at the airport on arrival, I had the pleasure of meeting the brother and sister team who manage their parents resort, both speak perfect English and seemed very happy to welcome guests.
The room was cleaned daily by a very lovely and always ready to help lady, as I said the rooms are rustic, but for us it was great. We sat on our front porch any time we were not in the water any way! Bugs inside were non-existent, and between the fans and ac we were more than comfortable.
Things start early at the resort, with cruise ship people arriving shortly after nine in the am, except for one drunken you college brat from Tennessee, being loud and obnoxious, the five days there were peaceful and serene.
The person who said Halfmoon Bay was shallow, evidently didn't venture very far. The bay is lots deep for worry free snorkelling, we saw two types of eels, spiny lobster, indigo hamlet, parrot fish, scrawled file fish, hawksbill turtle, octopus ,orange spotted file fish, peacock flounder, queen angel fish,French angel fish,3 types of butterfly fish, smooth trunk fish, spotted trunk fish, trumpet fish, goat fish, yellow finned tuna just to name some.
It is not for everyone, if you are a four or five star resort lover, don't stay here! But if you are content with friendly hospitality, clean and comfortable rooms, good restaurant food, you will be very satisfied. I will be going back!

My wife and I went to Roatan on the final week of February. We stayed at Half Moon Resort for seven days and have one regret, not staying longer. It's located on Half Moon Bay and has easy access to the water. While snorkeling in the bay we saw sea turtles, spotted rays, moray eels, lion fish, and many other fish.

The staff at the hotel was very welcoming and helpful, always ready to help us with anything. We used their local tour guide Marvin to view other parts of the reef inside and outside the bay. Marvin went out of his way to make sure we had a good time. He new where to go to see turtles, and rays. Overall it was a phenomenal experience, and we can't wait to return.

The only downside of the hotel is its food pricing. The food is awesome but the prices are very high, on top of that they add taxes (many restaurants don't add taxes if you pay cash, which we did) , they use the highest exchange rate possible, and they add a "service fee" for everything, I still don't know what the fee is for. In addition, when tourist from cruise ships arrive to spend a few hours there they increase the prices on everything, we bought a drink for $4 when we arrived and a day later when the tourist showed up the price for the same drink had gone up to $6. But there are many great restaurants with great food and lower prices at a walking distance, just get out and explore the town.

A friend and I stayed at this hotel for just over a week in mid-February 2014. The price and location are unbeatable. The rustic cabins, though simple, are tucked in between lush vegetation and provide great views of the sea. From cabin #3 we were able to hang out on the hammock and enjoy the view, or walk 10 seconds down to the bay to begin our daily snorkelling. In Half Moon Bay itself there is an abundance of sea life, including a resident moray eel in a sunken submarine and the occasional sea turtle. Lounge chairs and snorkelling gear are available to guests at no extra cost.

Staff at reception and in the restaurant were happy to help, and you have the convenience of charging any meals and drinks to your room which was nice. With very few guests, staff actually remember your name- a first in my hotel experiences.

There is also a dive shop on the grounds. Although new, and one of many in the West End, Ecodivers staff (https://www.facebook.com/ecodiversroatan) were extremely friendly, professional and flexible. They allow for small groups and I even had one dive all to myself!

You are within walking distance to the main strip of bars and restaurants but I found the hotel at night extremely quiet and relaxing. Lots of stargazing and sunsets for sure!

I would definitely recommend Half Moon Resort for the budget conscious traveller who is looking for a simple and relaxing getaway while being close to the action.

When we first checked in my wife suggested we go elsewhere. The room was a bit more rustic than we expected, with finish worn off the wooden floors, no shampoo or hair dryer, an unpainted plywood ceiling, and some areas in need of minor maintenance (very leaky faucet). But our cabin, #3, was seven steps from the beach area with some of the best snorkeling in the world. Although the cabin was rustic, it was very clean, had good AC, had daily maid service, only cost $350USD/week, and had a large porch with a great view of Half Moon Bay. We were very comfortable here. The view of Half Moon Bay is just drop dead gorgeous---I could stare at it all day. The staff were very friendly, and the resort is only a couple minutes walk from town. By the end of the week we agreed we would stay here again.
The nearby town of West End has several good restaurants and a few gift shops. The Coconut Tree was our favorite restaurant.
Henry & Marvin, who work at Half Moon Resort, provided us with a great snorkeling excursion ($30USD/pp for 2.5 hours). We hired a taxi driver, Courtney, for a tour of the island ($80USD/ 2 people for 7 hours. Beautiful Island.
My wife and I are avid snorkelers, and this was the best off-the-beach snorkeling we have ever experienced. I snorkeled around 1.5 hours each morning and again in the afternoon. Thousands of fish and beautiful coral.
This place quickly grows on you. We will be coming back.

Room Tip: I would recommend cabins 1-4.

We stayed at this resort for three nights at the end of January 2014. Let me say that the entire staff of this family-run resort was friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable! Our airplane was over two hours late in arriving at the Roatan airport, but the taxi driver we had arranged through the resort was still there waiting for us! WOW. And breakfasts at the restaurant were great.

We chose this resort because of its location ... close to town, right on the water, quaint-looking accommodations. We had read that the cabins were "rustic" and one should take that description literally. Certainly the salty ocean air is challenges any structure in its path! But we felt the cabin interior was very tired looking and would benefit from a little paint.

Stay away from the last set of double cabins. We were in the last cabin (farthest away from town) and were constantly besieged by a woman offering massage and hair braiding (her table was stowed under our side window which was a problem for our privacy during the day). As well, the gentleman who rents snorkel gear to non-guests had his table set up on the other side of our double cabin, which he manned from 8 AM till late afternoon. No wonder both of these people were staged in their locations ... cruise ship tourist buses parked directly behind our cabin and trotted groups of 30+ cruise tourists at a time past our double cabin and through the resort grounds so as to get to the dock for the glass bottom boat! If you are looking for a little peace and quiet, I'd recommend you book a cabin on the other end of the resort, closest to town.

Room Tip: Choose a cabin on the end of resort that is closest to town.

We stayed at Half Moon for three lovely nights. The room is a little rustic, but spacious enough, clean and charming. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of hot water. The location is great, set away from the main drag but just a short walk away. We loved out breakfasts at the hotel restaurant. Make sure you have the fitters! The staff here was great and really friendly. They hooked us up with beers late at night and always greeted us with a warm hello. We loved our waiter who booked us up with a great private snorkeling trip with the lovely Captain Arthur and was just a joy to be around. We also loved Sherry, the lady who takes care of cleaning the rooms. She is so sweet and will help you with anything that you need.

You can snorkel right out front of the hotel or relax in the beach chairs. This place is a great value in Roatan and it is easy enough to get into town for entertainment or to catch a water taxi to West Bay to hit the beach. We met lots of great people at Half Moon. I would recommend this place to anyone.
