Temple 1 is great because you can fully see it (but no climbing on it, just the ruins around it). It is pretty much the temple you see in all the postcards, and for me the highlight of Tical.

This huge ruin is well worth the drive and cost.

Only 10% of the entire ancient city has been recovered, but what has been done is worth seeing. They have done a great job of pulling back these magnificent temples from the jungle. You're not allowed to climb the two main towers in this plaza but can climb the smaller ones to the side.

If you're feeling frisky they even have a small kiosk that serves beer!

Tourist level is high here. Probably due to the ease of getting here (it's all paved roads). The park is huge all by itself and you can easily escape. Don't let the effect of extra people deter you. You need to go here. It's easy to make space for yourself and escape the people.

Temple 1 is a available to look at only. Climbing up the steep stairs is no longer allowed. There are multiple ways to view this iconic pyramid.

I suggest that you spend a full day there and stay in the inn, which is inside the grounds of the national park. The prefered method of transport is by air from Guatemala City, then by shuttle into Tikal National Park. There is also a coach service available which returns to Guatemala City via Semuc Champey
