This hotel is nicer than it appeared on the website. It is a small, budget friendly hotel, located right on the lake just outside of San Pedro. It is quiet and has lovely, tropical landscaped grounds. Hummingbirds, butterflies and tropical flowers were all around, and the friendly staff completed the welcoming atmosphere. The rooms are clean and tidy, and simple. There is no tv, telephones or other equipment (I brought my own alarm clock), but there is a ceiling fan and wireless internet available upon request. However, the local internet service from my experience is much slower than at home in the US (as in dial-up slow). I stayed at the hotel for several weeks, and was often the only guest there. I always felt safe, as they have night time security, and the owner and his lovely family live just next door. Other positive aspects include the great water pressure and hot water in the shower, and the cool night breezes off the lake, making the lack of air conditioning a non-issue. Also, the hotel owner Mauricio speaks perfect English, which was a nice bonus since my Spanish is somewhat limited. He also cooks a delicious steak dinner in the restaurant. Laundry service is also available, but be aware that electricity is very expensive in Guatemala, so almost no one has electric clothes dryers. Laundry is line-dried, and depending on the weather can take 2 days to get back. From the hotel it is only about a 30 minute drive to Flores and the airport. I would definitely stay there again.

Found this on tripadvisor when planning our holiday - evryone seems to stay in Flores - thankfully we did not! This hotel is run by a very enthousiastic owner, has travelled lots himself and makes a mean large margarita! Only 8 rooms, we were the only guests so very quiet and he upgraded us to the larger room. Great views from all rooms overlooking a beautiful garden and the lake. You can swim, kayak, peddle boat n- the water is very clean, lots of birdlife - so total contrast to noisy and dirty Flores. Be aware this is the more remote side of the lake - so transfers to airport or Tikal take a bit longer. Great meals to have a 5 minute walk away in all the small openair restaurants in San Jose. Very safe to walk during the night as well - again, such a contrast to the other side of the lake! And do try the hammoks along the lake front!

Me and some friends visited Bahía Taitzá Hotel for our 2007 new year's eve vacations and stayed there for 3 days.

We've found the hotel even nicer than it appears on the website's pictures and the rooms and other accomodations very comfortable. Even the food there is good, and a very good option if breakfasts and dinners are included.

We also found that rooms are very comfortable, nicely decorated, and have enough space to accomodate more people if there's the need.

I truly recommend it as a great option to stay in Petén, visit Tikal, Yaxhá and all the surrounding sites, or for a place to just relax and enjoy nature and the amazing views from the lakes shores.

This is a very spacious and relaxed hotel on the edge of a lake. There are kayaks and a pedalo if you want to explore the lake, or you can lie in one of the hammocks and take the occasional dip in the lake. The owner is also friendly, helpful and he cooks great pizzas too! Highly recommended!

There is not much in Northern Guatemala, so if you are expecting a 5 star hotel then you should consider somewhere else. But if you are going to the El Peten region you must know what you are going there for - a real connection to the culture, people and history of the Guatemalan people. This hotel is a haven in what is a very poor area of the country. It is a beautiful setting right on the lake. The owner is very personable and makes every effort to to ensure your comfort. So go, wander the towns and connect with the people, take a bus to Tikal and then return at night to the peaceful setting of Hotel Bahia Taitza

We would highly recommend this hotel. The rooms were clean and spacious, the grounds were beautiful and the food was great. The owner's dogs were an added bonus (2 goldens and 2 boxers). My kids loved playing with them. The dogs were well behaved and friendly! The owner, Mauriceo, was a wonderful host. You wouldn't find a better place to stay in Peten.
