“Weekend stay at this beautiful hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

I stayed at the hotel in January of 2011 for about 2 nights (trip advisor wouldn't let me go back that far). This was my first solo trip ever and my first time outside of the US (and yes even on an airplane!). I arrived in the evening and one of the owners, the husband, showed me to my room which was located on the second floor. I was so incredibly nervous because I was in another country and alone! When I needed to call home and my calling card wasn't working, I was on the verge of tears. I am so thankful to him for letting me use the hotel phone for a quick long distance call home! The food was great and very plentiful, I loved the fresh watermelon juice :) It was nice and quiet at night so I got great sleep. Quetzaltenango is small so even though the hotel isn't the closest to the main square, the walk wasn't long at all. I would recommend this hotel to a friend!

Room Tip: I would recommend a room on the second floor! Exiting your room onto the balcony in the mornings, se...

We found Xela to be a drab, rather boring town but if you absolutely MUST go there, the San Bartolome is a very reasonable option. In a quiet location and only 10 minutes safe walk from where the action should be - but isn't.

The rooms and are well
appointed but rather small and dark and definitely cold. The double beds are tiny. Hot water for showers is reasonably consistent but there are only cold water sinks. The shower heads themselves are a bit funky.

The single best reason to stay at the San Bartolome is Anabella, the owner, who is the epitome of helpfulness. As long as she's around you're assured of a warm welcome and your every need will be taken care of.

I stayed in two different rooms at this small hotel for a total of three nights. The rooms and the common areas are clean and quiet. The beds were comfortable and the shower had plenty of hot water. The staff is wonderfully responsive and the free breakfast is excellent (five menu choices!) -- All for about 25 USD per night. The hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from the city center. The rooms can be a little chilly at night (which suited me just fine) but they warm up nicely during the day.

This was our favorite place to stay in two weeks in Guatemala. It is more of a small hotel than a B&B (a dozen rooms or so, a small but good menu for breakfast and dinner, etc.). The location is closer to the center of town than you might think (just five minutes walk), and it makes for a much quieter night's sleep. The rooms are nice and extremely clean. The staff were helpful with a number of different requests, ranging from doing laundry in a hurry to cooking dinner later than usual. I would recommend this place to anyone.

We just came here when there was not enough sun in the sky to warm our bones. The staff is cheerful, hardworking, accommodating. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The central square is almost a flat walk from the inn and far enough away so that nights are quiet. The only problem was the lack of heat and no one minded when I wore a blanket for dinner which was prepared and presented with style. Breakfast is included.

We stayed for a week in this great accommodation, where the owner upgraded us to the suite with a self contained kitchen which we always like to have. Getting in the shower was like a sauna which was great at the end of a day sightseeing. We had dinner on 2 occasions cooked by the very happy, and always smiling staff. The owner, I think her name was Annabella was very helpful in arranging transport for us to explore a couple of local churches and offering us advice on how to get to various places. Overall, we would stay here again.

Casa San Bartolome is a perfect base for exploring Xela if you enjoy peace and quiet, cleanliness and a hot shower at the end of the day. The rooms are heated, and in Xela, that's a treat, as nights and mornings get cold. The women who run the place--and cook a delicious breakfast each morning--make sure that you feel comfortable. It's a great value. It's a little retreat in the city--a ten minute walk to Xela's Zone 1 center--a peaceful place where details are tended to with care.

Room Tip: Violeta let me choose my room once I arrived.
