Price: Q160 for a double with shared bathroom, Q.60 for a dorm bed, huge breakfast included
Review: The hostel is two blocks from the Parque Central which is the only really nice spot to be in town. It’s within 5 blocks of a bunch of restaurants, a grocery store, a movie theatre, a salsa club and the bus stop for busitos that go to the main bus terminal. It has a hip and funky feel with a small bar/restaurant that serves delicious and affordable food (Q.40 for huge plate of nachos). Breakfast starts at 8 am and you can opt for anything from an omelet or breakfast sandwich, to bacon and eggs or a bagel. If you are leaving earlier, they will make you a good sandwich on homemade bread in lieu of breakfast, just ask the night before. The atmosphere was much quieter here than in Antigua, the room was bigger, the bathrooms cleaner and there was a pleasant open balcony that circled the second floor. And more pleasant staff to boot. They can also arrange a number of adventure tours which we did not use. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Second floor has the balcony - worth it!

We stayed here three nights because my boyfriend was ill. We got a private room which was more expensive than other hostels but it includes a big breakfast. We had 4 israeli guys next to us and they made so much noise. The walls are thin but they were so noisy and even though we asked them to be quiet and told the hostel, they didn´t do anything about it. The free internet is good and the bathrooms are clean with hot water. The location is good. The breakfasts are big but the evening menu is not great, my pesto pasta barely had any pesto on it. If there was not so much noise it would be a great hostel. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Breakfast is the only, only plus of this hostel. Staff is the opposite of nice. And in the double rooms you can hear everything from your neighbours and the bar. So much better options in xela.

I stayed two nights in this hostel. The service was friendly and the location was great but... The cost of a private room without a bathroom is 3-4 times more expensive than other hostels where you also get a private bathroom and TV. The room I stayed in only had beds and, as another reviewer noted, the walls, floors and ceilings are paper thin so there is absolutely no sound insulation. The room was windowless and the sheets were very old and worn. In fact everything about the place was worn and it looked like no money ever gets invested back into this property. Yes, it is kept clean, but when the boards in the ceiling are facing in all directions and the bed you sleep in doesn't have have the full set of planks to support the mattress, cleanliness can't really remedy the appeal of this place. There is hot water, but only if you know how to change the settings on the boiler. And then there is the food. I tried a few different items on the menu but every single dish I tasted was absolutely tasteless, and as I later found out, overpriced like everything else about this hostel. You can really find better deals elsewhere!

Stayed here for one night in a private double room. Room was decent size, did not have a bathroom and was right next to the communal bathrooms. The walls were paper thin so we could hear people's toilet business which was unpleasent. We could also hear the conversations of the people in the room next door, aswell as the conversations of the people in the restaurant/bar directly below us. After a while the room started to smell like the bathrooms next door - very unpleasent. It was quite expensive for Guatemala ($25) and is not worth it. Breakfast was okay, but took quite a while.

This place is kind of old but its very clean. Internet is free, the staff is helpfull, the breakfast is all right (and include in the price). The location is really central near the central park. They have a counter for the travel agency Altiplanos, wich can arrange tour for you. This agency is the only place in town that I found that were willing to book tour for only 2 persons. Not too noisy (people talk in the courtyard late at night but I,ve experienced worst...). Nice joint for backpakers that are on a tight budget but want a safe and clean place.

I arrived in Xela, w/o a place booked - a friend (native there) took me around to a couple of hostels, and none were really doing it for me - until here - Black Cat Inn.

PROS: Lively hostel crowd, conversation wise, night sky light to let natural light in by day, breakfast was tops: eggs, plaintains, guacamole, fruit, or toast - INCLUDED, but coffee was not - I met other backpackers also traveling solo and was able to link together to site -see. You can have your laundry done for $3 USD, which I took up that offer, and was even surprised that $50 was placed right to top of my fresh clothes bag, left in my pants pockets. Now that was tops! Service was awesome. Staff super friendly.

CONS: Some folks complained of bed bugs, I did not have that issue, however my bed was a bit soft, and noisey...the boards were broken, and I was in a room of snorers. so sleepy was a bit of challenge - and the bathroom since its shared is often soften wet and damp. And "no hooks" - this was a super bummer for me, because you had no place to put your clothes or toiletries in the bathroom. The shower was warm-hot,

But overall, I'm not there for the bathroom, and everything was wonderful. Hopefully the nxt time Im there - they'll have hooks, and better beds.
