Casa De La Iguana

We slept in the iguana 2 nights in the beginning of january. We took a private room. In the time we were there 120$ were stolen from the dorm and 30$ were stolen from my bag (which was in the private room). The hostel has no gate, and it's open- anyone can get inside during the day.
Other then that it was rainy- and rain started dripping inside our room near the beds. (The hostel located in a swamp, after heavy rain you have to pass in deep paddels).
In general, in my opinion, livingston is defenitley a place you can skip; The beach is filthy, they dry fish in the village so the streets allways smells. If it's not in your way i would recommand not to sleep on the lake - in beautiful finca tatin for example.

I am very sorry for your experience here at Casa De La Iguana which also reflects on your impression of Livingston. In six years this hasn't happened which I accept is no compensation to you. We do take people's and their valuable's security seriously and there are motion detecting security lights, and night guard and a safe for people's belongings. The criminal has been caught by the local police. The situation has also raised awareness of a weakness in the perimeter security which has been rectified. Once again i am sorry for what happened. For people reading about this regrettable experience it is in no way typical of the hostel or Livingston in general.

How can I start.. I LOVE THIS PLACE!
We were here 5 nights and every night was special and sooo much fun. Expecially for new years eve!!
The staff is AWESOME, the food is great, the drinks are cheap, rooms good and simple, but perfect for travellers like us! We had a good night sleep every night.
It's a great place for meeting other cool travellers, easy to make new friends. The dinner is family style, everyone eat together, really cozy:)
They have great wifi, and even a flatscreen tv u can watch movies for free!!
And they have alot of movies and series to choose between :)

If we had the chance, we would stay much longer, had such a good time. Miss it already.
If we have the chance we're coming back as soon as possible!!

Again, love the staff; u're the best <3 <3

We stayed there just one night but we had a nice evening and a good night at this hostel.
The staff was really nice and helpful, we enjoyed our time there.
We could pitch our tent in the garden which is the best for us.

Me and a friend stayed here for Christmas, couldn't have asked for a better hostel! The staff was very knowledge, making arrangements for day trips and lancha rides right at the front desk. Also they were very friendly, making you feel right at home. The evening meals are fantastic, everyone comes together to enjoy great food and fellowship. There is always something going on at night, whether it be drinking games, or dominos, a party is always a heartbeat away. Overall a great place to stay, a party hostel at it's core, be ready for some late nights. Definitely worth the time!

This is a nice, laid back hostel with a Carribean vibe. Upon arrival you will be bombarded by coyotes trying to sell you drugs and take you to other hotels, ignore them completely. Make your way to this hostel and be prepared for late nights, relaxed days, and an "anything goes" attitude. The food is good and the portions are large.

Room Tip: Second floor private rooms get a nice ocean breeze in the evening.

I stayed one night here and then ended up changing to another place the next two nights. The staff was very friendly, almost too friendly, constantly trying to get you to in them on tours! The rooms themselves were dreary and felt dirty. I was in a cabana with 2 beds, right of the bat I noticed the sheets, they were stained and grungy. A bathroom was available in the room but overall it did not feel very clean or relaxing there. Free wifi is available and the food was very good. Overall I was not impressed and would not stay there again.

I am sorry we did not surpass your expectations. Thank you for complimenting the food. With respect to your criticism of the cleanliness in our defence we are in the jungle and I support the notion of using natural woods and thatching rather than tiles, plasterboard and paints in keeping with the environment. We also hand wash all of the linen. After your review though I checked all the linen and a bunch did seem frayed, tired and sun-bleached (from drying) so I donated it to a local charity and invested in some new linen. So thank you for your review. I can see it's justification and I have acted upon it.

This is definitely a hostel for the party crowd who don't care about cleanliness, but if you actually want to sleep and enjoy Livingston, look elsewhere. We have stayed in a lot of hostels in the US and Central America, and know what can usually be expected, but this place fell way short.

We were there on a Saturday night, which probably impacted the party crowd, but it was loud until about 3am, and the dorms are poorly designed, so that every time anyone used the bathroom, you could hear and smell everything (and I mean EVERYTHING!) that happened in the bathroom. Our mattresses were filthy, and there was a large stain on my sheets, and the pillows were lumpy and gross, so we didn't use them. I was thankful for earplugs and benedryl, or I wouldn't have slept at all.

The one plus was that the evening meal was VERY good, and a good value.

Room Tip: Try to get a bed as far from the bathroom as possible.
