“Great price & location”
Reviewed January 3, 2010

Stayed in late December. Highlights:

*Clean rooms (small, but not too small)
*Nice bathrooms & EXCELLENT showers
*Cable TV with many U.S. channels (watched NFL games during down time)
*Computer w/Internet free for guest use
*Convenient transportation from Guatemala City Airport
*Easy transport anywhere from this hotel (Antigua, Atitlan villages, and more)

Pana isn't for everyone, but my wife and I enjoyed it a great deal. Tourism is down due to the issue with the lake. It did not effect the beauty of the lake and we didn't plan to swim there, so no biggie. Good restaurants, friendly people, safe city = fun. Glad we booked this hotel. We will return.

We reserved our stay here in advance and Julio was very helpful via email to help us get from Antigua to Chichi for the Sunday market and then from Chichi to Pana ($12 each). A car picked us up at our Antigua hotel at 7am and brought us to town where we got on a bus (well, minivan) with a bunch of other people on the way to the Chichicastenengo and Panajachel. We were at the market around 9:30 (chichi) and were told to meet the bus back where they dropped us off at 2. If you do this... take note of where they drop you off - ask for someone to write it down for you. We took a picture and it came in handy as we got all turned around in the market and needed to be directed out!

Francisco greeted us as we arrived at the hotel. We'd put 1/2 the cost of the room+bus on a credit card to hold the reservation prior to arriving and were able to pay in cash (avoid cc 3% fee) when we got there (total for hotel + transfers =$110 for 2ppl). He arranged for us to go paragliding with Christian from Real World Paragliding and gave us some ideas of places to go for food & drink. The hotel is on the main street where they have lots of crafts you can buy (barter) as well.

We asked for a top floor room... it is all stairs (as an earlier post mentioned) but you can see the lake and volcanos over the rooftops, so it's a nice view. The room had a wardrobe to hang your clothes, a long bookshelf and nightstand - so plenty of place to put things. There was hot water in the bathroom. No alarm clock in our room (it's vacation, right?)

There is a room with a computer and couch just off the main lobby where they let you use the internet for free. They stored our luggage until we had to leave on the bus for Antigua at 4pm.

I'd definitely recommend this hotel. I speak spanish, so I didn't test Francisco's english... but his spirit is good, so I'm sure communication would happen.

What can I say. This was truly a home away from home. It is very close to the lake and close to everything. Besides location, it was the warmth of the staff and Julio that really made the difference. They helped with tours, transportation, and restaurants. They were very friendly and approachable. Made my Wife and I feel very comfortable. The rooms were really nice and clean. A great experience. Say hi to Julio and his staff for Pete and Kelly from Los Angeles. We hope to see them again.

Our third floor room was clean, with a view of the lake. TV had lots of weak channels, but who`s watching? Staff was efficient, friendly, and helpful, and the free Internet connection readily available. No complaints whatsoever, and we would use this one again.

My wife and I stayed at four moderately-priced hotels during our one week stay in Guatemala and this hotel was the best. We stayed two nights. The room was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and there was hot water in the bathroom. The staff arranged tours of Lake Atitlan and of Chichicastenango. We highly recommend both tours. Also El Bistro next door is a good place to eat. We did hear roosters and dogs during the night, but "Hey, this is Guatemala!"

This hotel is extremely nice. My only complaint would be the stairs, but if you want a first or second floor room, to avoid stairs, just ask for one. The view of the lake from the 4th floor was nice, but we were so busy touring the lakeside villages that I honestly had no time to enjoy the view. The transportation services provided by the hotel were great. The van was in excellent shape and easily carried 8 people and 16 pieces of luggage. Don't hesitate to book with Julio at Posada de los Volcanes if you are going to Panajachel. The rooms were clean, roomy enough given that you really won't be in your room much.

Staying at the Posado de los Volcanes was the best decision we made regarding our trip to Guatemala. During our trip we stayed in four different hotels, some of them costing over twice as much, but liked this hotel the best. We stayed on the third floor. The room was bright and clean. Upon our arrival the front desk staff whisked our heavy suitcases to our room.
The front desk staff were VERY friendly and helpful. They offered help and advice that was very beneficial. (Thanks Francisco and Julio! ) A real plus at this hotel is that they are well connected regarding transportation options. It may cost a little more but it is well worth it considering the convenience.
The only annoying thing was that right across the street is an open area where music is played. It can get a little loud. But I would not let this dissuade me from returning.
Our stay here was a highlight. We found ourselves wishing that we had spent more nights.
