I had expected the rooms to be more attractive from the reviews, but regardless, ours was clean with a comfortable bed. The shower had vigorous hot water. Bottled water was provided. Directly outside our door was a balcony with views across the lake. Breakfast was excellent (several choices; we had pancakes) served in a leafy courtyard complete with parrot. Wifi was good but didn't work in our room, which was frustrating; it worked on the balcony though. The hotel owners had excellent communication in making the reservation, and organized shuttles for us from Antigua, then on to Guatemala, with zero fuss. The location is about 150m from the water, and 400m from Calle Principal. A pleasant choice, though not the most luxurious in Panajachel.

The hotel is a very good choice for Guatemala standards. It is clean, the staff is welcoming, it is just 500 meters off the lake shore and many food facilities are within 50 meters from it (view of the mountain across the lake is hidden by tall trees). The shower had hot water, Free WiFi reception in the room (signal is better in the balcony outside the room), breakfast is not included. We paid 40 US $ for the night.

Tip: The higher the floor, the better view (limited by tall trees).

Please note the following general tip.

A general tip: Even if you passed the age of 35 and prefer to order before resuming the Guatemala journey, it is recommended to reserve only the room. About transportation, boat tours, guides etc.- it is recommended just to collect informationand to order them only upon or after arrival, since you will probably find better options and lower prices by at least 25% (less). The month of September for exmple is a low season month and we discovered lots of vacanies.
Prepare small notes of US $ (e.g. 10 "1", 5 "5", 3 "10") for the first 24 hours till you will have an opportunity to visit a bank for exchange. It is feasible to pay in US $ but anyway you will get change in local Q currency (about 8 Q to 1 US $).

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the better view (limited by tall trees).

We seemed to be the only occupants (early September) and we were offered a room on the top floor. The room was lovely and the staff were great, and we enjoyed our two-night stay. The hotel arranged transport to and from our other destinations which was greatly appreciated, this being our first trip to Guatemala. The hotel is situated on the main street and within walking distance to everything. We would recommend it to other travellers.

Room Tip: We would recommend staying on the top floor, with a better view of the volcanoes.

Only spent one night here, but really appreciated the warm welcome and helpful staff. There was a computer available in the lobby and cool beverages to enjoy while surfing the internet. Everything we needed was in walking distance. Our room was spotless and the beds were comfortable. The price was reasonable and we were happy we discovered this place.

From my initial email contact with the owner, Julio, my experience with the Posada de los Volcanes was extraordinary. Through very quick and friendly email correspondence, I was able to arrange for transportation from the airport in Guatemala City, two nights at the hotel, a day trip around the lake, and transportation from the hotel to Antigua. The prices were extremely reasonable and my trip turned out great.

Julio greeted us with a tasty drink upon check-in and his staff carried our heavy bags up the four flights of stairs to the top of the hotel. The hotel was small but pretty, with some neat Guatemalan art and handicrafts decorated throughout. Our rooms were simple, but very clean and the view from the balcony was very beautiful. The staff went out of their way to help us with dinner recommendations and all of their suggestions were spot on. The tour they arranged around the lake was amazing. For a very low price, we were able to visit three very different towns and had a great day. We were also surprised when we realized that there was a breakfast included in the price of our room. It was a new service and the food was really great.

I can’t recommend this hotel and Julio enough. It’s not the Ritz, but it has a lot of heart and soul. It’s a great bargain and the service is out of this world!

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter

Managed to get reservations for 14 people for a weekend, all done without a deposit and via email. Paying in dollars got us a great rate, and we were able to have 4 in double room, so it made it very affordable. The staff was great, giving us another discount on transportation. They picked us up at our house in Guatemala City and drove us to Panajachel. They also charged us only a small amount more to return via Chichicastenanga. The staff was great in arranging a launch for us to go across the lake. The rooms were remarkably clean and everything in working order. The hotel is located on the main street, with restaurants, bars, shopping and the lake very accessible. I chose this hotel based on previous Trip Advisor reviews, and once again was not disappointed..

Spent one night at Posada De Los Volcanes, 4th floor room. Great location and amazing hospitality by the owner Julio. Very accomidating and willing to assist you with tours and transfers as required.
Rooms were small but clean and comfortable with hot showers.
Has a nice outside shared balcony.

Room Tip: Being right on the main street, noise is unavoidable, but the higher the floor the better.
