Description: Experience traditional Japanese dining in a beautiful, authentic Japanese restaurant located inside the historic Casa Cakchiquel in Panajachel Guatemala. Restaurante Hana offers the rich traditions of Japanese home cooking with Chef Mihoko Azumi. Like we do in Japan, we cook with the seasons, and savor the peak flavor of ingredients. We adhere to the fundamentals of Japanese cooking: respecting the ingredients and their natural flavors, cooking in the moment, and not doing too much. Restaurante Hana presents a wide range of typical Japanese dishes including sushi, sashimi, tempura and all manner of lesser known dishes from the East, both large full dishes and smaller plates for sharing as well as daily specials. Restaurante Hana offers a welcoming multicultural family style dining setting for travelers as well as local customers. We look forward to serving you.

During a week trip I went to Restaurante Hana twice! Once for Sak-it-to-me Thursday and once for a predictably delicious meal! Both times, whether it was with a loud gang of sake lovers or at a cozy table of friends the food was warming and fresh. The service is always prompt and respectful. The miso soup and edamame is always a yummy way to start a meal with the perfect amount of miso and a salted snack! The spicy salmon sushi is safe and filling. The tonkatsu was a large portion and hit the spot. When you stomach needs something warming the udon and guyoza is a great choice. Thanks Mihoko and Jon for letting Pana enjoy all of your home cooked favorites!

just to add to my previous review, they have now moved so disregard directions in that review. They are now right off of Santander in the Casa Kakchiquel, nice garden, great food!

From the moment you set foot into the building that leads to the courtyard where Hana is located you feel like you have arrived in another city. The setting is tranquil and you feel like you are in a Japanese garden with no outside distractions.
The staff were attentive and accommodating and the food was authentic and genuine.
A pleasant surprise and yes I also wonder why it is not number 1.

What fun to find delicious Japanese food in a quiet, elegant courtyard in an historic building just steps away from the hubbub of Panajachel's busy shopping street. The price for the daily lunch special was very reasonable and the owner and her staff were gracious hosts. We had been enjoying wonderful Guatemalan food throughout our trip, but this was a really nice change of pace and the special shrimp roll was so fresh and tasty.
