Owner description: The Atitlan Nature Reserve is both a must for visitors of Lake Atitlan and a force in the environmental cause: Atitlan Azul. It is an extraordinary gate to the magnificent Lake Atitlan and its spectacular volcanoes. Its zip lines, butterfly preserve, trails, hanging bridges and lodgings bring you in close contact with nature. On the zip lines you fly above waterfalls, coffee groves, oak stands and the steep cliffs that guard the lake. At the Butterfly Geodome you enjoy the colors and forms of hundreds of butterflies surrounded by flowers and the sounds of water. Humming birds and the murmur of the river accompany you while you have lunch, coffee or a drink, then you continue to explore the diversity and beauty of this natural wonder. At night, the crickets, owls and the sounds of the night will be your company in our lodging. The Reserve supports the work of scientist and students concerned with biodiversity and environmental degradation.

A nice walk on a steep track though the bush will give you views of spider monkeys that perform by swinging from their tail. Also saw a coati and had fun on the swing bridges - -are they really safe?

you will see monkeys and coatis. waterfalls and lots of suspended bridges. beware that if you go all the way to the beach, you will have to come back the same way. wish there were more birds.

We had a great time there and went back again later in the week. We learned a lot and the monkeys were a riot.

We had a great time one afternoon when we stopped by this reserve. Pretty spot with waterfalls, monkeys, nice trails. The longer trail would take over an hour at a slow rate, and it's a pretty spot.

It was fun wandering around the old coffee plants. Many butterflies float around, even more outside of the butterfly garden than inside it! Definitely a worthwhile stop if you're visiting Pana. It would be a bit of a walk to the reserve, but it's pretty and near the lake. We drove, and if we didn't have a vehicle I owuld have taken a tuk-tuk there and then walked back down.

This is a lovely off-the-beaten-track type place, despite being a 10-minute tuk-tuk ride from Panajachel back up the main road. There are several trails; we did the 'long' trail which took around an hour. The paths are well kept, and there are several suspended rope and wood type bridges, with lovely views as you cross. They have a fairly rubbish butterfly farm (more butterflies outside than in), and another walk to the beach which also seemed lovely but we ran out of time midway through and had to return. We didn't encounter anyone else there, and it was really lovely.
