What a great hotel in a great location! We stayed here as part of a Caravan tour and couldn't have been happier with the choice. It has extensive botanical gardens, and the rooms have balconies (or patios if you're on the first floor) with a view of the gardens, Lake Atitlan, and volcanoes. There are interesting statuary and paintings in the lobby, the rooms, and the corridors. Our room was spacious with two big beds. Food was buffet and it was delicious. You can eat inside where there are large windows overlooking the lake or outside on the veranda. The pool is heated and there's an infinity hot tub that makes for a great picture. You can walk to a nearby nature reserve or take a tuk tuk to Panajachel or just walk through the grounds. We were sorry when we had to leave.

We stayed there for a few days while we were on a trip to Guatemala doing some volunteer work in Antigua. We wanted to get away and the travel agent recommended this. She was very right. Great location, just a few minutes out of town but so peaceful. Beautiful gardens surround the hotel and the view of the lake is great. The restaurant is very good and where can you have breakfast and watching the lake and it's surroundings in all it's Beauty. The rooms are big and well appointed.

One of the most beautiful places I've ever been! Plan on spending a few hours walking through the multiple gardens they have and don't miss a relaxed afternoon in the pool and jacuzzi looking at the breathtaking views of the lake and the volcanos.
A must is also a trip to the towns around the lake, especially Santiago and San Juan. Take advantage of the local tour guides that offer to walk you around for a tip, worth it!!!

This is on one of the most beautiful spots I have been to and I have been to many. Staff was beyond accommodating, food was really nice, setting was gorgeous and well situated near town, next to the nature preserve. There was nothing wrong with this place. On a scale of 1-5 I give it a 6!

Room Tip: If you can get a lake view you will not regret it but the garden views are amazing also because they...

Hotel Atitlan is the grand old dame of Lake Atitlan, once sparkling in its majesty and surroundings but now fading somewhat and in need of a makeover. There can be no doubt however that Lake Atitlan is a most breathtaking location with Hotel Atitlan having prime position on the lake for commanding views over the lake to the volcanoes.

The hotel decoration could in some eyes be described as verging on Mayan kitsch but we found this quite endearing. Our room on the second floor with an expansive view of the hotel grounds and lake containing two large beds was very clean and somewhat more simply furnished and decorated. The bathroom was a good size, also clean but requiring some maintenance both to the shower head which was almost hanging from the wall and taps that turned in rather odd directions. Hot water was plentiful, however.

The hotel grounds are immaculately manicured and contain some exquisite flora and fauna. Beware of the large parrot however who can be a little feisty and roams freely near his cage in daylight hours.

The hotel staff, in particular on reception was polite and efficient but in the restaurant probably need to be a little more attentive to the guests. On the couple of occasions that we chose to eat there, the service could have been improved upon but the food was good and reasonably priced.

WiFi Inernet access is free of charge to guests in the lobby/dining areas but to have this facility in your room there is a charge of US$10 for the duration of your stay. Whilst this seems a reasonable amount to pay, in today’s world this is offered as a free service and the connection was at times very slow and temperamental which is unacceptable if you are paying for it.

The hotel guests seem mainly to be tour groups of retirees from many nations who on occasions during our five night stay were inclined to be a little rowdy. My pet peeve however in staying in these larger hotels is the incessant banging of doors which resounds most noticeably late at night when guests return to their rooms or in the early morning on leaving their rooms. If you are a door banger and reading this, please have some consideration for other people who may be trying to sleep! Any door can be closed quietly if you think and make an effort. Rant over.

A walk to the town of Panajachel will take you around twenty minutes from the hotel, part of which is uphill and along the very busy road into the town. It is far easier to take a tuk tuk at a very reasonable price. The main hazard however in choosing this mode of transport is for the driver negotiating the unsealed side road to Hotel Atitlan with its potholes. The hotel really needs to maintain this road better particularly through the rainy season.

Although not very pretty in itself, Panajachel has some charm. The tourist strip on Calle Santander brims with cafes, restaurants and shops all selling very similar Guatemalan fare. Hawkers abound and unfortunately are not easily escaped from if you make eye contact.

We ate many times at different times of day at Deli Jasmin/Lllama de Fuego in their two locations on Calle Santander. These two small restaurants serve great freshly cooked food from many nations, with grace.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher levels have better views of Lake Atitlan. For serenity avoid rooms overlooking t...

The pictures do not do this place justice. Just beautiful!
A peaceful haven 7 minutes from Pana.
The view was breathtaking of the lake and the volcanoes .
The hotel was unique and very tastefully decorated. Everywhere you look a feast for the eyes !
Delightful.
I had a great massage in my room by Carmen who did a great job. The front desk arranges it all for a reasonable price.
This was the last stop of our Caravan Tour which I also highly recommend. One of the best guided tours we have ever been on. All 42 of us , ages 5 to 83 had a great time.
A fabulous place !
