My husband and I just returned from a visit to Guatemala. While in Panajachel we spent 5 nights at Hotel Atitlan, and we are very glad we chose this hotel. It is beautiful and classy, and far enough away from the noise and shops of Pana to give you a relaxing, tranquil, resort feel. We spent each evening in the infinity hot tub, and after a few drinks it was challenging to think about taking a tuk tuk into town. We ate most nights at the hotel restaurant and bar. The only downside is that breakfast is a bit expensive. Most mornings we walked into town for coffee, or just ordered coffee at the bar and ate later in town. We requested a room on the 3rd floor and enjoyed fabulous views of the lake. The staff were all very attentive, the gardens are superb. We highly recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the 3rd floor, away from the restaurant & pool.

Extensive gardens immaculately kept. Great views of the lake from the decks. Nice pool and infinity hot tub. Short walk to a park with hiking trails, monkeys and zip-lines. Wifi worked in bar area. Museum pieces abound. Excellent massages available at reasonable prices.

Room Tip: top level for the view

If you want a larger (65 rooms) hotel with full services, this is the place. The setting is spectacular with some of the most beautiful gardens we have experienced. The pool, patio and jacuzzi overlook the three volcanos and shimmering and stunning lake. Think Lake Como as truly magnificent scenery. Rooms are ordinary all with lake views. The breakfast buffet had many choices and delicious. The service staff were friendly and attentive. Great shop on premises. Hotel arranged boat trips to other lake villages and to Chichi which we recommend. Wonderful place for families, a destination wedding or just to relax in a superb setting.

The exterior of the hotel is beautiful: lovely buildings set in magnificent gardens (for which others have to pay to look round), with a good sized swimming pool & a huge 'infinity' and very hot jacuzzi, and the most comfortable loungers we have had anywhere. How lovely to sit in the garden & watch the sun go down over about 5 visible volcanoes.
However, not everything was idyllic. The hotel really needs 'refreshing' & the rooms were not of the standard of the exterior. For example: the curtains were unlined so that during the night the lights from the garden were visible & then at dawn the sun shone through. Very difficult to sleep. There was no inroom safe, no water provided, the hanging space was exceedingly small & 5 plastic hangers were provided, though there was plenty of drawer space, & the bathroom was small. The hotel advertises "wifi throughout the hotel": which equates to $10 in your room, but free in the bar & restaurant (odd?). It also says "hotel shuttle to Panjachel": this means "we will call you a taxi". The staff could also do with some 'customer care' training, though the bar staff were very good. The front desk staff deal with clients when they have nothing else to do! The food was quite good, & the portions were huge - so at least something was good. It is a real shame, since it could be an incredible hotel if only someone could take charge of the interior.
Whilst there do go int the town (c1 mile away0. We walked there & then, lazily, got a tuk-tuk back.

Undoubtedly the best feature of this hotel is it's location, on the lakeside looking across the water toward the three volcanoes. The lush, well kept tropical gardens are a festival of colour but beware of the hotel parrots, stray too close and you will get a nip.The rooms were fine and gave great views across the lake. Having 'sun-downers' on the balony gazing at the view will be a fond memory. It is easy to get a cheap Tuk-Tuk into the nearby lakeside town of Panajchel where there are lots of restaurants and shops. Both dinner and breakfast at the hotel were fine, a good choice of dishes, well cooked and pleasently served. We ate on the terrace overlooking the lake and and the temperature was fine even in February. We crossed the lake next day to Santiago Atitilan which was worth a visit, but our one night here could have been longer, a truely magical spot and a nice hotel.

Room Tip: For the infirm, there are narrow wooden stairs (no lift) to the upper floors.

In some ways a slightly strange hotel with the brooding volcanoes gazing across the lake and lots of relics from Catholic churches used as decoration throughout the hotel. Various saintly individuals and items adorned not only the corridors but shared our room with us…..not an experience I have had before and I don’t get to say this often! However, they seemed benign enough… The food was OK though not exceptional. Having said about the brooding volcanoes, the views are spectacular from the rooms and the staff are charming although not too many of them speak English. The gardens are beautiful and a great deal of effort goes into their upkeep. I particularly liked the parrots that live there. There is a really ugly hotel outside the back of this one, which rather spoils the side vista. Overall a very acceptable, rather different hotel

I was here with a tour group at for the last two days of a 10-day tour of Guatemala. Unfortunately it was time to go home. The gardens surrrounding this hotel are absolutely beautiful. Everywhere you turn, there is something new to see. At the pool, there is a zen feeling as you look over the lake, listen to the music and take in the volcano views.

The restaurant menu is limited on a nightly basis. This allows them to do a few things well. It is much better to choose from few excellent items vs having a broad buffet of mediocre food.

The rooms are comfortable. Decor is a mix of Spanish Colonial and the Indiginous art that is in the area. The owner has excellent taste and the ability to provide a broad mix to allow you to experience the beauty of this remarkable country. The only negative would have been a ceiling fan or something

We certainly wish our tour would have allowed for a few days of total R&R at this resort before it was time to go home. I would have liked to stay a few days longer.
