I liked this place a lot, perhaps it's because there were a lot of market stalls selling books when I went there, and I picked up a few bargains!

There's some cheap places to eat nearby, and a few more expensive places if you're that way inclined!

Thank Tom W

This plaza is what I consider to be a very typical plaza in Central America. It is located in the heart of the old city, surrounded by the governmental palace, a good Cathedral to visit, the national library, and what is now shopping areas. in a prior day, this was probably the center of government and culture of this country. As with many Central American cities, the culture and governmental centers have moved elsewhere leaving these magnificent buildings and other relics of a bygone era. The plaza has a very large fountain with the usual pigeons. This is a good place to spend a few minutes or perhaps a couple of hours visiting the Cathedral Nacional and the Palace.

We strolled along the plaza taking photos with a beautiful blue sky even at 6pm in the afternoon. The plaza was quiet and other tourists were doing the photo sessions along the plaza. The site from the plaza towards the Cathedral was great! if you are in Guatemala walk along the plaza, take photos to remember your visit!!

We stopped here one afternoon during our stay in Guatemala City. Because of the large space of the Plaza it wan't very crowded but it was busy. There locals were selling their handy crafts, vendors and food carts all around the Plaza, locals and tourist relaxing and enjoying the park and feeding the Pigeons. There was a Quinceañera taking place at the Cathedral Metropolitana. There were protesters outside the Palacio Nacional. There was a lot going on but that is part of the beauty of this unique city and space.
