While I enjoyed the museum, I don't think it was worth the money. When we visited there were a lot of empty rooms - we figured it was because of 13 B'aktun and assumed that a lot of the exhibits were on loan.
There is very little information on the exhibits unless you hire a guide or know Spanish (which I imagine many readers do). I have half-decent Spanish and still thought the information in the exhibits was sparse.
The best thing about this museum in my opinion is that the modern art museum, zoo, and market are all really close together, so you can make a day of all of them. Be prepared to drop some dough, though.
