Located in Zone 10 (Zona Viva) which is one of the safer areas in the city for tourists. Excellent area for shopping and lots of nearby restaurants and cafes. Food is varied and everything is available from traditional Guatemalan to the big US fast-food chains including McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut and Hooters. The atmosphere changes when the sun goes down as the businessmen and women who work in the area by day are replaced with tourists and locals out for the clubs and nightlife.
Guatemala City is an excellent base if you are in Guatemala on business but for leisure-travelers most points of interest are found outside of the city. So, the first and last nights are best spent in Guatemala City as the Westin is 10 minutes from the airport.
For someone who frowns at the thought of packing their suitcase and leaving one hotel in the morning only to check in to a different hotel in another area that evening might find Guatemala City to be a great base to take day trips to explore the markets and colonial towns within a couple hours drive. And leave the driving to a local by signing up for a tour (group tours available, but If you can pay a little more for private, it's definitely worth it!
Westin doesn't sacrifice any details when it comes to their classical yet elegant decor which includes an impressive fresco-painting in the "dome" located in the lobby. And I must add that the Apple and Kiwi flavored drinks available in the lobby were very refreshing. Numerous shops are just beyond the lobby selling everything from Toothpaste to Guatemalan Jade.
ROOM FEATURES AND AMENITITES
Westin holds a high standard when it comes to sanitation and cleanliness. And I must say that the bed had the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on in my life! Mini-fridge is well-stocked with wine, beer, liquor, water, soda, etc. theres also a basket of various nuts and candies as well as batteries and memory-cards for your camera (or you can pay less than half of the price and go to one of the many shops a short walk away. Westin provides the most complete set of Travel-size bath products I've seen in a hotel, so no worries if you forgot something at home.
Price is higher than most other hotels in the City but its also one of the nicest. The price (in my opinion) is very reasonable by US standards. So, if you want to splurge and be pampered, do it here for much less than you'll be able to when you return home.
Deluxe accomodations, friendly and attentive staff in a lively section of the city at a reasonable price when compared to what the same level of service would cost in the US.
