“Wonderful fusion cuisine, expensive for Guate”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2012

If you are in Guatemala on business and are used to exceptional cuisine from major cities around the world, Tamarindo's may not excite you and may not even live up to your expectations.

If you are on the cutting edge of Guatemala's restaurant scene, you may know of some newer places that have opened and have something better.

But, if you are in Guatemala and are tired of what is around your hotel in Zone 9 or 10, and yet you don't want to go exploring in other zones, Tamarindo's is an excellent option. It has inventive and colorful Asian fusion entrees, and the ambience is relaxing and classy.

The service and food are both very good, but it is pricy. Even given that less than excellent characterization, Tamarindo's deserves its four stars for providing something different and tasty among so many other more bland alternatives.

It is a nice place for a business dinner and could serve as a good site for a romantic date as well.

“Perfect ambience, great for groups”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012

I dined with a group of fifteen people at Tamarindos after a week long wedding celebration. I have to say, it was my favorite restaurant in all of Guatemala City and worth every penny.

Located in the heart of the city, it is easily accessible and has a chic, low lighting inside and a lovely patio area outside.

Tamarindos is PERFECT for a large group of people due to the large, extensive menu. I was dining with a group of people from NYC, Miami, Guatemala and Chicago, all with different tastes and dietary restrictions and everyone found something to enjoy - steaks, noodles, seafood and sushi rolls. I had the dragonfly roll and crunchy maki roll - both delicious - and the vegetarian fried rice.

Great wine list, attentive service, beautiful lighting and all in all a charming experience

“Let down”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2012

We made a reservation a week ahead and called to reconfirm the day of for our wedding anniversary. We requested a nice table for two and they offered to decorate it. When we arrived, only maybe 5 tables were occupied in the whole restaurant. They sat us at a table set for 4 that they had to reset after we sat down and in between two other seated tables. Obviously no decoration for us, they probably had not even written our name down for the reservation, so they never took note of the special occasion. The fish was good. My husband ordered a pad thai but had to send it back for more seasoning as it was extremely bland.

“Expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2012

The food is ok, but very expensive. They have a good service, and the place is beautiful. I had a fish, and I think I can make it at home.

“Great food and fantastic service in Guatemala city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2012

What an unexpected surprise - a colleague and I were invited to meet for dinner at 10.....on arrival from Miami; to be honest - top of my list of things to do was room service and bed.

What a pleasant surprise; the service could not have been better, with the waiter make an extra special effort to speak to me in English, the only non Spanish speaker.

I was in luck as my reading glasses had gone AWOL and the host ordered the wine and starters and I had the easy option of selecting the special of the day, recommended by the waiter.

Everything was superb, setting, food, wine and great company. A perfect reason to go back to Guatemala and really explore.
