“Great New Suite at Coral House!”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

I am a frequent visitor to Coral House; it is a second home in Punta Gorda, Belize with warm, friendly owners and staff. Plus a few dogs and cats to keep you company. On my last visit I stayed in their new suite and can highly recommend requesting that space. Huge bathroom with roomy shower. Porch with a view of the sea and hammock. Nice large sitting area with flat screen TV and very comfy bed. There is even a small nook with a refrigerator and coffee maker - the room also includes a breakfast at the inn which is simple and delicious. The best coffee in Southern Belize can still be found here at Punta Gorda.

Room Tip: All the rooms are clean, comfy. #4 is a little bigger, and the suite is huge.

I stayed at Coral House 5 nights during my visit to Punta Gorda while on a dive trip with Reef CI.
The inn is a beautiful hide-away in this small little town. The rooms offer a super comfortable space with great amenities. The AC, fan, wifi, soft towels, delicious breakfast fruits, friendly staff, and great bed were a welcome reprieve after 5 days on Tom Owens Caye. The grounds are expansive and all encompassing with beautiful foliage and a luxurious pool - perfect for doing laps and cooling off after a jaunt into town. The walk into town is only about 10 minutes or you can make use of the bicycles at the inn. For me, this inn was a luxurious and affordable oasis. It played a huge part in making my stay in Belize as wonderful as it was. This is the place to stay if you are traveling to Punta Gorda.

I have stayed at this inn a few times while travelling through Belize. In the town of Punta Gorda , this little hotel on a hill is the most luxurious of the places available. The owners, Ex-pats from Idaho are super sweet and friendly. the pool is a delightful relief from the heat, and the grounds are stunning, gardens, shady thatched cabanas, a pretty outdoor shadow and a fully stocked honor bar available 24/7. There are only a few rooms but they are large, clean and modern , with a.c and cable television (sometimes hard to find in those parts). There are many places to just "hang out" literally, beautiful hammock just a step away from each room, and lots of poolside chairs. There are complimentary bikes available which are a good thing because the center of town is a bit far. The owners are avid art collectors and the work by local artists are all over the common areas. But I would have to say the thing I like the most is that the proprietors make an effort to employ the local people, even if they have to hire more people than the actually need. Giving a boost to the local economy is a very important part of what they are all about. I would return again and again!!

Yes, the red VW van is still parked out front. Yes, the pool and thatch bar is still there, with the honor bar. Yes, the setting is still great, overlooking the water. Yes, the rooms in the main building are still attractively furnished, with air-conditioning and Wi-Fi. Yes, the included continental breakfast is still delicious.

Coral House Inn is still a great place to stay in PG. What's new is that Darla and Rick have converted their old living quarters into a really nice suite, reasonably priced at around US$135 double. They have a few other planned changes, too, but safe to say that Coral House Inn remains one of top places to stay in one of the most appealing and least-visited areas of Belize.

Other people have commented on what a lovely place the Coral House is, and it truly is a wonderful, comfortable place to stay - far nicer than what you'd expect in such an off-the-beaten-path location. What I want to point out is that although I have stayed in many, world-class hotels in my time, this one struck me as one of the most artistically beautiful ones. The rooms, the grounds, the public areas are all just plain beautiful in an artistic way. Not opulent, not gaudy, just very tastefully done, and in a very unique and genuine way. This is not a major hotel - its a small inn, and its very clear that the owners, who did the work to renovate, take great pride in their work. Its an accomplishment they should be very proud of, and a real treat for anyone who winds up anywhere near Punta Gorda and feels sleepy ;-).

Sat 20 April - Mon 4 May
We stayed in Sea Glass Cottage, a self-contained cottage, just along from the main house - absolutely fabulous, overlooking the Caribbean Sea. It was clean, spacious, well equipped and water provided. The girls were incredibly attentive, asking all the time if there was anything we needed. The staff were so helpful but in a quiet dignified manner. The main building is immaculate with four beautiful spacious rooms. There is an outside bar - an honesty bar, can you believe that - where in England would you ever see an honesty bar? April being the hottest time of the year, over 100 degrees made the pool (the only one in Punta Gorda) a God send. The pool area has lovely seating/sun beds and free WiFi access. The hotel provides bikes which was a real bonus - we wandered round most days exploring and went to several different restaurants each night on our bikes - the roads although not the best are all lit. We mixed up quiet days with some great excursions. It was the most lovely week, quiet and very relaxing - we recommend it wholeheartedly.

Coral House Inn is a wonderful place; beautiful grounds, great cats and dogs, well maintained pool, which was so refreshing after a hot weather walk or bike ride to/from town, clean rooms, adequate breakfast but could have been just a little heartier, and really quiet. Ale, our hostess, was terrific, gave suggestions for tours or things to do, set up our visit to Bel Campo, and generally made sure our every need was covered. It felt as though we had the place to ourselves which added to our overall enjoyment of the inn and Punta Gorda. Would definitely return for another stay.
