Description: Top quality seafood and barbeque in Punta Gorda. Relax at the only restaurant and bar around that is completely over the sea. Fresh meals are cooked to order with sustainably caught seafood; fish are often caught by Asha (the owner/head chef) himself. Our kitchen serves hearty dishes prepared with healthy ingredients. Listen to various styles of live music – including Creole and Garifuna drumming, Mayan marimba, and international performances – all while enjoying the Caribbean sea breeze with a view of the Guatemala highlands from across the bay. Exceptional service and competitive prices. Business practices are very environmentally friendly. We cater to all needs; including large groups, food delivery, and a variety of events. Please call ahead for large groups, to-go orders, directions, or our music schedule. Marine tours, sustainable-fishing classes, sunset-booze cruises, and cooking lessons are available.

We enjoyed some hot fried plantains and fresh squeezed juices while sitting out on the deck. Lovely. Came back for dinner and enjoyed the veggie curry. Good way to get some veggies in PG!

“Slow service, good food, music on occasion”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

Our hosts encouraged us to give the place a shot, although they did mention that it has been inconsistent in the couple of years since opening. We wanted seafood, and this seemed to be the best spot in PG Town for seafood-oriented dining.

The seafood is good, sides were okay, but it's neat to know Asha himself is a fisherman, pulling in much of what is used in his own kitchen. Over the course of 2 trips to Asha's, the group of us tried a good many dishes, all of which were tasty. We also learned (mostly just by looking into the small kitchen) that Asha is not set up to serve 4 people all at once in a timely fashion. So it can be an issue even when you're the only table there.

Go on a night when there's music - there will be a decent crowd, friendly atmosphere, and good food. With the entertainment, and the crowd, you won't mind that the service is somewhat slow at times. After all, you're in PG, and "PG time" is a bit different than Western time. So just order a bucket of Belikins and relax.

Hello - thank you for your comments, however after reading your review we are a bit puzzled. First of all we have only been at this location since May and we don't serve buckets of beer. Also, we have the capacity to serve up to 32 guests at a time in our 300 ft2 kitchen.

The food is cooked to order though, so please don't expect fast-food speed service, we aim to have food served within 20 min max. Asha does practice sustainable fishing and provides the fish for the restaurant.

“Fresh as could be”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2012 via mobile

My family and I visited punta gorda for Garifuna Settlement Day and tried Ashas on our first night in town. Our group ordered four of the dishes (garlic shrimp, curry fish, cracked conch and grilled lobster) - real yummy! It is simply the best seafood restaurant in the area. Plus the view over the sea and the staff were equally impressive. I would recommend to anyone interested in authentic creole culture and nice ambiance.

“Excellent!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012

Don't remember what I had to eat (long day of travelling), but I do remember that I was bummed that I didn't go back for a second meal.

Service was excellent, very friendly staff, highly recommend this resturant.
