We felt we had found the perfect place to stay and experience the character of the village. We loved the lush tropical vegetation all around us, tidy grounds, loved the whistling of the 2 parrots, Barney, and Oliver early in the morning, the dock at the water's edge just feet away from our door, the double swing by our front steps...We were within walking distance of the beautiful beach, many open air restaurants, fruit market, grocery store, bank, and interesting shops. Best of all, Lucky and Erin made us feel right at home. They were so helpful as they arranged the Monkey River tour with Percy, arranged for a fishing trip with Eric, supplied the go cart at a reasonable cost for us to explore the area, and were always ready to help us in any way. The cabana was clean and kitchenette equipped with a fridge and microwave. The fans kept the place comfortable. We would love to visit Captain Jak's Cabanas again.

Captain Jak's cabanas are located among lush, tropical plants. It is located on the lagoon, which affords the most amazing sunsets. Erin and Lucky own Captain Jak's and they are unbelievably hospitable and welcoming. They will make every effort to make your stay a pleasant one. , We stayed in the upstairs villa portion of Captain Jak's, since we were expecting 5 family members for Christmas. (We have a residence outside of Placencia which we use 4 to 5 months of the year but it would not accommodate 7 people).. The Belizean woods which finish the villa are spectacular. The area is spacious and there is a large outside balcony on the back which overlooks the backyard and looks toward the cabanas and the lagoon. There is, also, a balcony on the front of the villa, where you can sit and watch the main street activities in Placencia. Captain Jak's is in the centre of Placencia so you are immersed in the culture and the community. There are many small outdoor restaurants, many on the beach. A plus for Belize is that there are no big box restaurants or commercial businesses. Each one is local and that makes them very appealing to us. I have been in the cabanas and they are very cute and provide the necessities. We, recently, had friends come to Belize to visit and they stayed at Captain Jak's for four days before coming to stay with us. They were so grateful to have stayed there, to have experienced the cabanas, the lagoon, the village, and Erin and Lucky's charming birds, Oliver and Barney. Barney, a colourful green parrot, whistles Bridge on the River Kwai, speaks and imitates the ring of a cellphone among other things. I would never hesitate to recommend Captain Jak's to anyone. Erin and Lucky do their best to make you feel at home, recommend tours and just make visitors feel welcome and part of the family.

What a wonderful 3 nights we had at Captain Jak's. We just loved our room right by the dock...we sat out every morning in the comfy chairs drinking our coffee and watching the Hokey Pokey water taxi. The grounds are beautiful and the owners are just lovely, and were always helpful. Our room was small, but had everything we needed...loved the great shower and full sized fridge.
The only downside was that there was quite a bit of dog noise, especially at night and early morning. We would still stay again though!
Some of our favorite spots in Placencia, Above Grounds for coffee and bagels, Purple Monkey for great dinner food, Barefoots for drinks and a bite to eat, and of course Tuti Fruitie for gellato! We loved everything about Placencia, the people, the vibe and the incredible beauty. Hope to come

We came to Placencia with another couple and stayed in 3 different places. Unfortunately we were booked at Captain Jaks' for 2 stints of our holiday. The grounds are lush and lovely. The cabanas are very clean but surprisingly small and ill equipped to make a meal. Between the other couple and ourselves we were able to salvage utensils, pots and pans to meet our needs. There was no hot water at the kichen sink and it lacked the basics, such as pot holders. There was hot water in the shower but the pressure decreased as the temperature rose. The noise throughout the night was disruptive. This included barking dogs, feral cats fighting, roosters crowing before the crack of dawn and parrots (rescued by the owners) squawking in the morning. We were next to a private residence that had their tv on full blast at all hours and could hear their conversations clearly. One a positive note, we found Jason, a hired staff member to be very conscientious and helpful..we feel he runs the place. In comparison to the other places we stayed which were a comparable price we would not recommend this accomodation.

We loved Captain Jak's in Placencia. A truly good hideaway in Belize. We stayed for 10 days and had a wonderful time. The accommodations were great and the lush tropical views from our front porch were gorgeous. We had everything for a fantastic visit at our fingertips. We loved the nearby open air restaurants, the beach and stores. Our trips to Laughing Bird Caye and down the Monkey River into the Rain forest (in the rain, I might add) and a fishing excursion where we caught much fish, were arranged thru Lucky and Erin, the owners of Captain Jak's. Eric and Percy, our guides were professional, informative, personable and willing to assist in any way possible to make our daily excursions/adventures memorable ones.
Lucky and Erin were always there to help in any way to us and all the guests staying at Captain Jak's. If you are planning to visit Placencia, then plan to stay at Captain Jak's!!!!!

We stayed one week at Captain Jaks lush tropical resort on the lagoon and right across the street from the beach and wished we could have stayed longer. It is a great location for enjoying all the activities Placencia has to offer. We will never forget all the great fun we had swimming, dining at lots of good and inexpensive restaurants, visiting the interesting shops, meeting lots of peaceful and friendly people and strolling thru the pretty town. The owners, Lucky and Erin were extremely hospitable and helpful answering our questions as was Jason and the Texan that rented us the go cart we took on an adventure out of town. Everything we ever could have needed was right at our fingertips, grocery store across the street and fruit stand and good coffee shop next door to name a few. We can't wait to return next winter.

We are from Colorado and we don't travel as much as we would like, but going to Captain Jak's was a wonderful and beautiful place to stay in Placencia, Belize.
Lucky and Erin did an excellent job to keep us and other guests comfortable. We planned our tours with them which made it very easy and at reasonable rates. The tours are always performed by local people from Belize and you are picked up and brought back from Captain Jak's marina. Our Monkey River trip was scheduled with Percy and you can probably see him on Jack Hanna's documentary of the Monkey River.
The Villa, cottages are very nice and comfortable. Their Marina is great to go seat and enjoy the morning coffee. The grounds were beautiful with lots of lush greenery, flowers and tropical birds.
We only have to walk few yards to go to the food store, beach, shops and restaurants. There is a coffee shop right next door and they make the best tropical fruit smoothies.
We'll definately come back to Captain Jak's. We had the best vacation ever!
