“A Special Place to Visit”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

We loved Captain Jak's in Placencia. A truly good hideaway in Belize. We stayed for 10 days and had a wonderful time. The accommodations were great and the lush tropical views from our front porch were gorgeous. We had everything for a fantastic visit at our fingertips. We loved the nearby open air restaurants, the beach and stores. Our trips to Laughing Bird Caye and down the Monkey River into the Rain forest (in the rain, I might add) and a fishing excursion where we caught much fish, were arranged thru Lucky and Erin, the owners of Captain Jak's. Eric and Percy, our guides were professional, informative, personable and willing to assist in any way possible to make our daily excursions/adventures memorable ones.
Lucky and Erin were always there to help in any way to us and all the guests staying at Captain Jak's. If you are planning to visit Placencia, then plan to stay at Captain Jak's!!!!!

We stayed one week at Captain Jaks lush tropical resort on the lagoon and right across the street from the beach and wished we could have stayed longer. It is a great location for enjoying all the activities Placencia has to offer. We will never forget all the great fun we had swimming, dining at lots of good and inexpensive restaurants, visiting the interesting shops, meeting lots of peaceful and friendly people and strolling thru the pretty town. The owners, Lucky and Erin were extremely hospitable and helpful answering our questions as was Jason and the Texan that rented us the go cart we took on an adventure out of town. Everything we ever could have needed was right at our fingertips, grocery store across the street and fruit stand and good coffee shop next door to name a few. We can't wait to return next winter.

We are from Colorado and we don't travel as much as we would like, but going to Captain Jak's was a wonderful and beautiful place to stay in Placencia, Belize.
Lucky and Erin did an excellent job to keep us and other guests comfortable. We planned our tours with them which made it very easy and at reasonable rates. The tours are always performed by local people from Belize and you are picked up and brought back from Captain Jak's marina. Our Monkey River trip was scheduled with Percy and you can probably see him on Jack Hanna's documentary of the Monkey River.
The Villa, cottages are very nice and comfortable. Their Marina is great to go seat and enjoy the morning coffee. The grounds were beautiful with lots of lush greenery, flowers and tropical birds.
We only have to walk few yards to go to the food store, beach, shops and restaurants. There is a coffee shop right next door and they make the best tropical fruit smoothies.
We'll definately come back to Captain Jak's. We had the best vacation ever!

We stayed in the Villa which is gorgeous! The property is full of plants, has access to the canal and walking took us to a variety of restaurants, shops, activities, and the Caribbean. All of the restaurants we visited had good food, i.e, Barefoot Bar, Omar's, Cozy Corner, Wendy's, Secret Garden, and more. I got several beautiful zirocote wood bowls from a shop on the main sidewalk (this couple makes them). All of the locals were very friendly. Lucky, Erin and Jason made all of the arrangements for our snorkeling trips and Monkey River tour. When we left, we felt like we had new friends.

Captain Jak's is an excellent place to stay while in Placencia. The location is perfect, an easy walk to the local bars and restaurants but far enough away that there is no noise from them. The villa was excellent with decks out front and back so always had a nice breeze and that was an easy walk to the beach. Lucky, Erin and Jason made sure we had everything we needed and were there if we had any questions.
We were early risers so enjoyed sitting on the back deck in the AM and listen to Barney and Oliver the parrots chatting.
I am looking at going back to Placencia next spring and will hope to stay at Captain Jak's.

captain Jack is a great place to stay in Placencia especially if you want to stay close to the village. the only the very friendly and welcoming that water is no housekeeping the room it's not that big however the location makes it worthwhile.. if you get pretty hot in the room and educationally a few bugs get in but if you want to save money and be close to the village where is everything its I definitely recommend staying at Captain jacks.

We were at Captain Jaks for our Spring break 2012 so March 21- April 1 2012. We rented the villa as we were traveling with our boys age 16 and 18 and my sister. Captain Jaks is on the lagoon side but only a 2 minute walk to the Caribbean. There is a large grocery store across the road from Captain Jaks, and the fruit/ Veggie market next door. It is walking distance to the Barefoot Bar, Omars, tons of restaurants and bars. the Bank... everything. If it is not convenient to walk they also rent out golf carts, bikes and I am not sure what they are called but 4 wheeled peddle bikes, and motor bikes. They also rent out Kayaks .

We were in the beautiful villa which slept 8 people. 4 upstairs they have 2 singles in one area and a queen ( Not positive on that size but it slept 2 people) and there is 2 bedrooms down stairs each with a TV and slept 2 in each again I think those were Queens. There is 2 bathrooms a main bath and the one in one of the bedrooms with a shower as well. There are 2 decks which is fantastic. In the morning we sat on the back yard deck in the shade drinking our coffee and having breki and listened to the two parrots talking. Barney and Oliver.. To funny.. (There is also a hammock on the back deck for those lazy hot afternoon naps..).and in the afternoon we were on the front deck in the shade. They have a table and chairs on both decks. The kitchen is very well equipped and has everything from a blender to bottle cozies to keep your drinks cooler, pots ,pans,plates,bowels.... They also have movies and books and some games.
The yard was beautiful, well kept. There was tons of beautiful birds in their yard even humming birds, (Erin has a few feeders) . They have a horse shoe pit ready and I am sure you would be able to convince Lucky to throw a few with you.. if he is not to busy..

Captain Jaks has a dock right on the lagoon so we spent a lot of time out there as well. They have loungers and a hammock and shade, and an area in the sun if you like.

Captain Jaks has also 5 other cabins. 2 have 2 floors with 2 bedrooms up stairs, kitchen, very nice. I had a look at those ones as one was empty for the day. The other 3 are just one story and I never had a look at those as they were booked the whole 12 days we were there.

Lucky and Erin are great hosts they booked our snorkelling trip for us. The van was late picking us up and Lucky even phoned to see where they were. Lucky and Erin and Jason told us all about Placencia , Where to buy groceries, beer, where the bakery was, some places to eat, what was their favourite to eat there, ( You need to try the chicken burger with pineapple, bacon and a whole lot of stuff on it.. at the Bare foot bar.. very yummy.. thanks Lucky ) . Very helpful and if we had questions we felt like we could ask them at any time. We also rented a golf cart for the day one day to have a look around. It was washed and ready for us.

We all loved it there as the location was great, close to everything but not to close. The Villa and yard were beautiful and clean, and ready for us when we arrived. We have already booked again for next spring break 2013.

Room Tip: All rooms are great. Captain Jak's can accommodate families, couples or singles.
