This is a really beautiful place in a great setting. Very upscale, incredible service. Everything was great. It is located 2 miles from the center of the little town at the end of the peninsula. The shuttle bus driver took us where ever we wanted to go and had good suggestions. The landscaping was stunning and the interior of our villa was very tastefully decorated.

There wasn't a true restaurant - instead you ordered your food from menu and had them deliver it to whatever you wanted on property such as patio, pool side, on the little dock which has some tables in a great setting to watch sunset, etc.

It is a bit pricey, but was worth it.

My only suggestion is that they need to work on WiFi. We could not get in our villa or even on our porch - only in lobby and at the bar.

This property is nicely landscaped and very well kept. We had two villas for Christmas week with totally different decor. The honeymoon suite is a bit over the top with African Jungle Theme but very spacious. Improvements could be made to the lighting which was very dim, especially in the kitchen and bath. Villa 13 was more peacefully decorated and the kitchen was better outfitted as well.
All of the staff are very attentive and friendly. Housekeeping came a bit late in the day for us but the property was totally full while we were there which probably created some problems.
The pool areas are very clean and infused water is provided all day by the pool which we really enjoyed.
For us the cons of this resort were the bugs and the beach/ocean. We are used to crystal clear ocean water with lovely long sandy beaches. The water here is cloudy, entry weedy and while the beach in front of the hotel was well maintained once you step off the property it is pretty dingy.
The bugs are terrible. Sand fleas, no seeums what ever they were they were unmerciful. Even when coated with deep woods off we were driven inside by the bugs. For us this is a deal breaker.
We rented a golf cart for the week which we highly recommend. There are several good restaurants in town and a few good fruit markets as well.
Overall Chabil Mar is a lovely but very pricey property in a location where the weather is hit and miss at Christmas time.

My husband and I stayed at Chabil Mar for the first five days of our honeymoon in November. We absolutely loved Placencia. It's a small fishing village with outstanding local food. The hotel is perfectly situated on the beach just a few minutes from the main strip. They provide complimentary bikes, which we used often to bike into town, as well as complimentary shuttle service to and from town every evening on the hour from 4-10pm, which we used nightly to grab dinner. The local restaurants are delicious! They are so easy to get to too - I would definitely recommend checking them out. We had one meal at the hotel (a private dinner on the pier) which was lovely, but we preferred the local grub. We grabbed groceries in town and used our kitchen to make breakfast every morning since we were up early every day to go on tours. The tours were super easy to book. We went scuba diving with Splash Dive Center, which is located across the street from Chabil Mar. We also went fly fishing with a local fishing guide, saw some Mayan ruins and did the Monkey River tour - which is not to be missed!! Our Monkey River tour guide Percy Gordon is a local celebrity of sorts. Natalie at the front desk was amazingly warm and helpful. All staff were extremely friendly. Our room was large and filled with beautiful local art. We had an adventure-filled and romantic honeymoon. If we ever come back to Belize, this is where we would stay.

Our second family holiday trip to Belize -- Placencia was an amazing destination and Chabil Mar was the PERFECT place to stay! Visited for Thanksgiving 2013 (23-30 Nov 13) with our entire family (parents + 4 adult children). Location was absolutely gorgeous, right on the beach with beautifully maintained grounds; well apportioned rooms; and full ammenities (bar, pools, restaurant, room service). Our three-room suite was huge and clean! All the employees were very warm, friendly, and helpful -- Natalie and Merli (front desk); Darrin and Faura (bar); and Latcho (security/shuttle bus) stood out as the best! Overall, our stay was a truly fabulous experience and exceeded all our expectations! Thank you again to the entire CB staff for making our visit so special and we can't wait to come back again soon!

This hotel is amazing! I have never taken the time to review a hotel but this hotel was very special. The people who work there are so friendly and helpful and our room was beautiful. Great for kids too but not noisy or commercial!
I can't wait to go back!!!
