A fabulous place! Spent Christmas week here and loved it. The beach is breathtaking, Peter and Petra (managers) are extremely helpful and accommodating. Petra graciously called several airlines to make changes after our son's flight was cancelled. Thank you!!! We loved everything about this place, though we didn't eat at the restaurant often, preferring to go into the village of Placencia for lobster and the delicious Belizean food. A recent review mentioned the power outage, but didn't clarify that it was the entire area of Belize without power, not just the resort. Yes, a generator would have been nice, but we were in the tropics! Also want to clarify another point in previous review. There was no "break-in" on the lower floor! It was our unit , and a friend's backpack was taken by some local children on the beach. inconvienent, but not a disaster. They now have an iPod which they probably can't use anyway. One of the lovely things about Laru Beya is that you have the best of both worlds--a beautiful resort in a still unspoiled, rural area. If you want Cancun, then Belize is not the place for you! We are already planning for our next visit and hope that Placencia, Seine Bight and Laru Beya are still there and just as beautiful next time.

We stayed here for three nights at the end of our trip in Belize and Guatemala. Can highly recommend it. We were treated very well by the keepers of this small hotel. We had a beautiful penthouse room with a private jacuzzi on the roof which could be accessed from our balcony. The suite was very large and nicely furnished. Very nice kitchen with very modern appliances. The view was just gorgeous. Direct beach and ocean view from all rooms. Can fall asleep to the sounds of the waves. We had a kingsize bed. Great TV and Ipod station. Somehow we were upgraded to this room from one of the rooms in the back, so this was even nicer. I was again very impressed with the helpfulness of Peter and Petro, the managers of the resort. They were available all the time and just as accomodating as could be. The resort offers free lessons and equipment for a Hobbie Cat which we tried and enjoyed a lot. They also have sea kayaks that are free to use. The pool is beautiful, but small. The resort is right next door to Robert's Grove Resort so you can wander over there to get some food or have a drink.

While I would strongly recommend this place, there were some problems while we were there. The power to the hotel and in fact the entire peninsula went out several times (for as many as 8 hours) during our three day stay there. This meant you could not use the toilet and there was no water in the units. Plus, no electricity. Some other resorts have generators for this reason, but Laru Beya did not have one. Also, I found the restaurant to be somewhat of a disappointment. We had a New Year's Eve buffet during which all the food was basically cold. Breakfast buffet same thing. This is an area the hotel needs to improve on. The staff also seem fairly unexperienced. Frequently, some choices on the menu or even for drinks were not available. While we were there, there also appeared to be at least one incident of a lower unit being broken into despite the hotel having a security guard.

Despite these (for some probably serious concerns!), we were very happy there and would definitely go back. When things did not work out very well, the managers tried their best to correct it. Bravo to them! The setting by the way is directly on the beach. It is outside of town (maybe ten minutes by taxi which tends to cost about $ 10 US dollars each way). This could get expensive if you plan to be in the very small town of Placencia a lot. We did look to be away from town and so it was fine for us!

Laru Beya is for you if you are looking for a relaxing and beautiful spot in Placencia. The pool is fantastic and everyone is super-nice.
We kayaked and snorkeled at Laughing Bird and ate and drank and shopped. It was perfect!
