Wow, what a vacation... we took this vacation with my family, (Dad, Mom and two teenage sons; 19 & 15 years old). We immediately fell in love with warm atmosphere and welcoming rooms and staff at the Maya. John and Ellen cater to our every whim, and were wonderful hosts. The Maya Beach Hotel and Bistro is truly a hidden gem. The Hotel Concierge, Marlon was extremely knowledge and the Maya Beach hotel as a whole had excellent connections with the Local Tour Operators; our guides where particularly knowledgeable and all around great guys. My family particularly enjoyed following tours; Jaguar Preserve with Zeff, Monkey River Tour with Derwin, Laughingbird Caye Snorkeling Tour with Nick and SCUBA diving at the Barrier Reef with Doren were all particularly. It was a nice to have such phenomenal restaurant steps away for our room. We had a wonderful time with our waiter Cedric, ask for him! In the era of Mega Resorts, it was truly wonderful to sit at the bar with John and Ellen, and discuss your amazing day.

From day one the staff was polite and accommodating. Great room (Dreamsicle Studio) at a great price. Housekeeping came every day. The AC came in handy at night. We used the free kayaks to go to False Caye. They also have a dock with a swing chair to sit in.

This, by far, was THE best vacation my family has ever had! We stayed in the Flip Flop Palace and it was fabulous....extremely clean, right in front of the water and very comfortable. The staff at Maya Beach Hotel far exceeded any expectations we had. From Day One, they knew all our names and treated us like royalty....my sons were amazed. I can't say enough good things about the food. We tried practically everything on the menu and nothing disappointed us. We had a chance to eat at Robert's Grove one night and I would only give it one star compared to a zillion star rating for the Bistro! All of the staff at the Maya are exceptional....from the guys that raked the beach each morning (they have the cleanest beach on the strip) to everyone that served us all the way up to Ellen, Jon, Marlon & Kim....special shout out to Avi who mixes incredible drinks---I tried like hell to get him to come home with us...LOL

We went on 2 excursions--Monkey River (Ralph was tour guide) & Mayan Ruins/Blue Creek Cave (Zef was tour guide). We would highly recommend these 2 tours especially with these specific tour guides. Both of them really knew their history and went out of their way to make sure we had a good time.

All in all I would recommend the Maya Hotel & Bistro above anywhere else on Placencia. I can't imagine I would receive the same personalized service at any other hotel!!

We are already saving for our next visit :)

Could not have asked for a better vacation. Our first trip to Belize with a cast of 9 family and friends, We loved everything about the trip and hotel, food, tours. Accomodations were excellent, food was fantastic, and all arrangements were great. We loved the bistro and the staff who knew our names and preferences in a couple of days. We loved the view, regardless of the room but the Dreamscile house was perfect! We would love to spend every Thanksgiving at the Maya Beach Hotel.

Excellent in so many ways...Coming from a new yorker who eats at the worlds best restaurants, I was so impressed, the hotel's restaurant is exceptional. Not just their few best dishes but basically everything on the menu was outstandingly exquisite, and very well priced. The hotel staff is full of the friendliest people, so friendly it's hard to even consider having a bad day when every one around you is in such an upbeat mood. The atmosphere is fantastic and water sports and jungle adventures are conveniently located a small taxi ride away. Additionally- we are writing this from the hotel bar where we have wireless four steps from the beach.

We absolutely loved our stay a the Flip Flop Palace and really can not wait to go back

PROS
Ellen (the owner) is amazing, and is so attentive at making sure all the guests have a great time. She went way above and beyond to coordinate everything from our dive trips to our jungle adventures. She knows everyone there will re-arrange your schedule so you get the best weather for each of your activities. I really recommend booking everything through her and letting her handle it. She is so amazing.
The food was amazing! My mouth is still watering over it. The nut crusted fish...mmmm...
It was a really good deal for the price, we couldn't believe the price.
You could hear the ocean from your bed in the flip flop palace.
There are kayaks and bikes for use. We had fun borrowing a kayak and going around for a bit.
The room at Flip Flop was amazing. It's one floor of a beach house you have to yourselves. It's an open floor plan with a sizable bedroom, living room and kitchen and then a bathroom. I don't think we used the kitchen much because we wound up eating all the wonderful food downstairs. (And I really am not someone to eat at the same place every night on vacation, and certainly, almost never eat at the hotel- but it was the best Belizian food you could find!!)

CONS
Location, it was away from the downtown area and you need to take a cab to go down (or a really long bike ride) but part of that is the charm of the place.

This was our first trip to Placencia and while we experienced some problems getting there, it exceeded our expectations. The food was great and the people were fabulous. It's not the Four Seasons but for where it is, it's surely one to return to.
