“Aqua Villa - So relaxing!”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

My wife and I stayed with another couple at the Aqua Villa house. This is a home managed by the Maya Beach Hotel located down the beach a few minutes walk. It was the "rainy" season, and we'd just arrived after a tropical depression, so keep that in mind as I go through our stay.

Our days were windy (10 - 20 knots), and the water was only calm in the mornings, but the wind kept bugs away very well and the temperature at the house was always nice. We only used the AC the last few days when the wind started to die down. Power was in and out for the first few days as the peninsula recovered from the storm. Sounds fun right? It was incredible!

We were there for a little over a week. The Aqua Villa house was in a quiet area with adjacent homes on the beach. Yes, you can hear conversations from next door and children playing (or screaming), but not so bad it was distracting. The house itself was a perfect retreat for two couples. There are two separate bedrooms, and a common area with a kitchen. There is a double sea-kayak at the house with all the necessary equipment. Bikes are available from the hotel.

We spent the majority of our days laying around the pool, relaxing, and soaking up the sun. We did do a few tours (Monkey River and the Mayan ruins by San Ignacio), but having your own pool and privacy was nice and tough to justify leaving.

For food there is a grocery store 1/2 mile down the road with everything you'd need. We ate out quite a bit at the Bistro in the hotel several times and the food was always excellent. We also tried the Green Parrot (so-so) and got some pizza from the bowling alley across the street. Yep there's a bowing alley, Jaguar Lanes, and the owners were very nice. Bob even took us around back to see how the pin handling is done by the machines.

The staff at the Maya Beach Hotel were the very best. They were friendly and helpful. Marlon checked on us several times through our stay to make sure all our needs were taken care of. Housekeeping checked in every day and were very good at catering to our needs. They even did the dishes for us when we were away on tours.

If you're looking for a quiet get-a-way, this is the place! We discovered it on Trip Advisor and it's everything we expected and more.

This is a late review on from our honeymoon, but I wanted to be sure to get this review in as this was such a huge highlight for us. We stayed at the Maya Beach Hotel July 2012 and we loved it!!! We stayed in flip flop palace, which included a fully furnished kitchen and what felt like a private beach area just for us! And a really cool porch/patio where we watched a lightening storm move inland. The sounds of the ocean waves were like a lullaby. The pool was a nice touch, although we didn;t get to use it much because of other plans we had for snorkeling and diving. The fully furnished kitchen allowed us to make our own breakfast and one dinner that we ate on our porch. HOWEVER, I could have had all my meals at the hotel bistro. The food was soooo good!!

The staff was friendly and accommodating and helpful in giving us suggestions for diving and snorkeling companies. We used the hotel kayaks one day to kayak out to a near by "island" (it was farther than it looked!) but we ended up doing some snorkeling on our own which was pretty fun. We ended up driving (we had a rental car to drive around from San Ignancio to Placencia...best idea ever.... Super easy navigation in Belize) into town a couple of times to check out the (small) bar and restaurant scene and to pick up a view groceries. This is definitely a great deal! You get a lot of value for what you are paying for.

Thanks for an awesome honeymoon trip! We will definitely return! We loved Belize and this was one HUGE highlight of the trip.

Room Tip: Flip flop palace! Just do it! Best views. Great size. 100% beach front.

Someone said you can't have as much fun on the second visit to a vacation spot as you did on the first visit. This is not true at Maya Beach Hotel. This trip was like going home to family. John and Ellen (the owners) remembered the things we enjoyed on the first trip and enhanced them. This time we stayed in the "Flip Flop Palace" which overlooks the beautiful beach and blue waters of the Caribbean. The "Palace" had a full kitchen stocked with cook ware and a full size refrigerator. The room was clean and quiet. Maid service was performed while we were gone. We had fresh flowers on the bed when we arrived. What else could you ask for?

John still performs miracles in the kitchen. The food at Maya Beach is worth the visit even if the Caribbean wasn't 75 feet away. Get the coconut shrimp for an appitizer. Spend some time at the bar and get to know Leo and Avi. Ask for Cedric to serve you at your table. They will fill your visit with funny stories and happiness that comes from living in paradise. The service is impeccable.

Cleve is the concierge. He will arrange excursions and handle the smallest of details. Ellen always has a watchful eye on everything and makes sure you are comfortable. She recommend we stopped at a local tamale stand on one of our excursions and the food was fantastic.

A week (or just a few days) at Maya Beach is an absolute wonderful vacation. The accomodations are great and you are treated as family. Well worth the trip.

We stayed here for two nights in the Jaguar room prior to a catamaran charter. What a great spot to just chill, read or whatever. You are literally 75 ft. from the water with a beautiful beach. No need to eat anywhere else as the bistro is excellent with a great menu. The staff is very friendly and we would highly recommend this small beachfront hotel.

It was our first time to Belize and we couldn't have been happier with the exceptional staff and quality of the Maya hotel and bistro! Not only is it insanely cheap for the quality, but the location is amazing. We stayed for 8 days, 7 in the hibiscus room and one in the hummingbird and both were clean, quiet and comfortable. Everyone was welcoming, introducing themselves and making us feel right at home. You can't go wrong with Maya beach and we cannot wait to go back!!

We stayed 8 nights in the Flip Flop Palace at Maya Beach Hotel, from May 19-May 27. This place is awesome! The beach is beautiful and hand-groomed every morning! We walked up and down the beach and Maya Beach Resort has, by far, the best maintained and prettiest beach in this area. The owners and staff at the hotel/bistro are all welcoming and wonderful. We traveled with our 3 y/o and he also had a wonderful time here. Would I recommend Maya Beach Hotel for kids? I guess it depends on the kids. The place is certainly "kid-friendly", but it does not cater to kids. There are not constant activities to entertain the little ones (but, this is actually one of the reasons we chose Maya Beach Resort!). We like our son to actually experience a destination and not just "be entertained". There is so much to do in Belize with kids (even young ones).....we did the monkey tour, Blue Hole national park, and of course the jaguar sanctuary. We found Belize and Maya Beach Hotel to be perfect fit for our family. And, finally, the food.....the food at Maya beach bistro is delicious. The spicy shrimp po'boy may be one of the yummiest things I've ever eaten. Maya Beach has to be one of the best hotels in the Placencia area, but it is also one of the more affordable. What a great combination!! Thank you for everything!

We stayed at Maya Beach Hotel and had a wonderful time. We stayed for two nights, wish it could have been an entire week. Our room was the "converted garage" and we LOVED it. One of the swimming pools was literally outside our door and hardly anyone used it except us. The food at the restaurant was outstanding. At times, the chefs mingled with guests, as well as the owners. They made us feel right at home. We said we'd never go back to Belize, not because we had a bad experience, but because we have other countries to visit. We have now agreed that we will come back to Belize and stay an entire week at Maya Beach Hotel. We feel the "fitness center" was the pool, our walks on the beach, and swimming in the Caribbean! Beautiful beach, right on the Caribbean, friendly people, great food...what more could we have asked for??
