We joined another couple who had already booked a day of chocolate tours and the Punta Gorda market. We persuaded Lyra to add the spice farm tour. Enjoyed the Excacao meal and hands on demonstration very much. Would also recommend the spice farm tour, which gave us a new appreciation for how these spices are grown and processed. The open market (belive it was Punta Gorda) was interesting, but only open on Sat. mornings. We saw many new fruits and veggies, which Lyra was familiar with and told us about. She was a very good guide and gave us a lot of good information. Had a great time. The food and drinks were amazing.

Lyra and Mark took our group (grandparents, parents and a toddler) out twice in the week we spent in Placencia. Both tours included local experts and hands-on experiences; (we made chocolate at Ixcacao and visited the howlers in Monkey River Town). They were both excellent with our baby and conscientious of the pace of our day, even taking breaks to let the little one run around. They are both extremely knowledgeable having grown up in Belize and speak with expertise of the anthropological and cultural implications of a growing and vibrant country.

Mark was a wonderful guide on the Culinary Adventure Tour to Silk Caye. Pointing out other cayes & landmarks as we made our way out to the tiny island. He stopped & caught lobster which he included in our delicious lunch of barbecued chicken & barbecued bananas for dessert. The snorkelling was awesome & we saw mammoth sea turtles to top off the amazing day

When we booked our trip it was told to us that because most in our party were inexperienced, some even afraid, we would be taken well care of. Because they offer the service of fresh seafood lunch, one guide would focus on catching our lunch, while the other would take care of our group. According to other reviews we read, this would be the case. However, things didn't go as we planned. First, when we showed up, Mark, our ONLY guide for the day was busy eating breakfast. So we waited. Then, when we got out to the spot we were going to be snorkeling at, he told us we are going to start by snorkeling off the boat, handed us each a bag of gear, and said stay near the boat, and don't touch the coral. Then he swam off to "catch us our lunch", leaving our whole group there to take care of ourselves. I spent my morning on the boat, trying to convince my daughter she would not die if she accidently touched the coral, and it would be OK if she got in the water. This is where it would have been nice to have the second guide we were told would be there. It was frustrating!
At one point, Mark, who was quite some distance away, calls to us to come quick to see a manatee swimming by, which would have honestly been truly impossible for any of us to do, we were frustrated because if we would have been tended to properly in the beginning, we may have had a chance to see that beautiful creature.
Mark caught us a lobster for lunch, which was well prepared, and tasted great. As well as the conch he brought with, which is the only conch that we had in Belize really worth writing home about. However, even with the side dishes, it was a LIGHT lunch. We had one lobster tail, a couple pieces of conch and a couple of sides for a whole group to split. Mark told us it would hold us over until we got back to shore. Not exactly what you want to hear from someone who you have paid for a meal! It would have been fine if that is how everyone who pays for a trip like this eats when they are out. However, while we were eating, another tour guide showed up with his group, each of them with their own fresh lobster. I really just wanted to leave at this point, but because it was raining, and Mark was taking his afternoon siesta, we were stuck in the shelter hungrily watching this other group enjoy their own lobster tails, again frustrating!
One in our group had a mask that was filling up with water all morning, and he couldn't figure out why. He discovered a cut in the silicone, which he showed Mark, who then blamed it on him, saying: "These are brand new, that's why I told you not to be carrying these all around", which he had never said, and was never carried anywhere. Frustrating!
After lunch we went back out for one more snorkel. Mark, again the first in the water, did take time to show various creatures from the reef, to one in our group, the rest of us apparently were not moving fast enough for him. However, we did enjoy the beautiful reef and all of the creatures we got to see there, especially after Google told me what they were.
Based on all the other reviews we read, this doesn't seem to be the norm. It just didn't meet up to the expectations we had. I feel the day would have been a lot better if we would have had two guides like we were told we would. And I know we all have off days, bad days or what have you, and I hope that is all that it was. It was just sad that Marks bad day had to come at our expense. Sadly, I don't think I would recommend them based on our experience.

I am very sorry to hear that your snorkel trip did not meet your expectations. We usually have two guides on our snorkel trips. On this day we were not able to provide both guides and in retrospect perhaps it would have been best to have canceled the trip, particularly given that several of you were not experienced snorkelers. While certainly everybody has an off day we do our best to minimize those and we at Cayequest are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with us. If you would like a partial refund please contact us at cayequest@gmail.com. Again, we are sorry to hear that the trip was sub-par and we would be happy to do what we can to address your concerns.
