“Lovely Location and Decent Diving”
Reviewed July 12, 2013 via mobile

Arranging last minute free airport pickup was a seamless start to our stay. This continued with a friendly greeting at reception and the welcome rum punch. Rooms were nicely air-conditioned and pleasantly furnished (minus the creepy painting of faces above the huge bed). The grounds are impeccably maintained. The included breakfast changed daily with fresh and tasty baked goods, from doughnuts to cinnamon rolls, and beef empanadas or bean burritos. In room coffee was also a nice touch. Drinks were reasonably priced but pours were small. Don't try the bitters. Yuck. We opted not to eat dinner there because prices were high and went next door to Quarter Deck-an excellent choice. We chose the hotel from the reviews and ease of diving. Diving was good but advertised as South Water Caye when it went to Laughing Bird. A big difference. But when we told them, they changed it so that we could dive the outer reef. The convenience of diving with the resort was worth any hassle. For the area, I highly recommend. But be mindful that you may not be able to swim in the sea there depending on the weather. The pools are a great alternative though. A great choice for a hotel in Placencia.

My wife and I spent three days at Robert's Grove in late June.

The resort sits on a nice stretch of coastline about 4-5 miles from true Placencia. We biked into town our first day (loaner bikes) and it took about 20-30 minutes, one way

Robert's Grove has great outdoor toys to borrow (bikes, ocean kayak's, small boats and more.)

While there is a nice beach, you can't really go swimming off the beach, as turtle grass and other debris is in the water. This is not the case all the time, though. We did see a few stinging jellyfish in the water. (This isn't RG fault. Welcome to Belize.)

Our room was great and spacious the first night. The second night, a couple was either next door or nearby and couldn't hold neither their alcohol nor their maturity. Hours of yelling ensued. Fortunately, staff was made aware the following morning and we were moved across the campus far, far away from them. I'll say that the rooms on the south edge of the resort are wonderful!

The staff truly turned our experience around and ended our trip all positive. Kudos to them!

The restaurants on site were a mixed bag. Their Mexican fare was moderate. What was odd was that the salsa at Habanero's wasn't good at all and didn't appear homemade. However, the salsa at their main restaurant was exactly homemade and fresh. It was excellent as well. They could improve on that consistency.

The breakfast in the morning was decent: fresh fruit, one meat dish, yogurt, pastries and bread.

If you head into town, a taxi will run $10 US each way. Great eats and experiences there, be sure check it out and the great people!

Lastly, bring bug juice. You'll be on the mainland and the skeeters will want to say hello.

Room Tip: Request a top floor room for views and breeze.

We stayed at Robert's Grove for a week and totally enjoyed the experience. Rooms were clean and nice and we had a view of the ocean and went to bed and woke up with the sound of palm leaves swaying in the wind! It was great!

The food at the restaurant, especially the continental breakfast, can be improved though and the prices are a bit high. I was expecting more of a Belizian menu but instead ate alot of American food while there. If you stay there check out Sweet Mama restaurant just next door for more of a Belizian taste.

Room Tip: Higher floors give you a better view of the ocean

We spent 14 days in Belize recently and had dinner or lunch at Habeneros at least 3 times. The food and service was outstanding each time, and I only wish we could have eaten there more often. We have been home for a month now and I really miss this restaurant. If you are in this area of Belize, you don't want to miss this restaurant. Guaranteed good food and fun!

My fiance and I stayed here in early June. As a travel book we read stated, the resort was "pure class all the way." Our room was stylish, clean, and very cool. We enjoyed our balcony facing the beach every night. The staff was friendly, remembering our names and faces everywhere we went. I couldn't have asked for better people there to make our stay hospitable, from the front desk, to housekeeping, to Clifton who assisted us with the Hobiecat for the first time. We had dinner at two of the restaurants, and enjoyed the continental breakfast in the morning. The beachside seating for meals off of the main lobby was top-notch. We will DEFINITELY return.

We stayed here from May 19, 2013 to May 30, 2012. We were upgraded upon check-in to a one bedroom villa. It was the farthest room on the property in Building I. It was very comfortable, quiet and clean. We had a big porch just 6 feet from the sand and 30 feet from the ocean. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. It was not extremely busy when we were there so I can't say if at busier times if the staff would be as good. The front desk Ladies were all awesome and helped us many times with our questions and booking our excursions.

We had the free breakfast included in our room. It was more than enough for us as divers to eat before heading out for a full day on the boat and in the water. It included fruit (2 kinds), toast, baked goods made by Mathieu’s (the deli by Habaneros), yogurt, coffee, tea, juice. If you want to add eggs or something at a cost you can. We ate at The Robert's Grove restaurant for dinner once, the food was good but very over priced for the quality and the quantity. We preferred Sweet Mama's (low Belize price) and Habaneros (moderate price lower than Robert's Grove) when we stayed around the resort.

We ate in town at Wendys (really good for lunch and lighter dinner), Secret Garden (really good- great dinners), Rumfish y vino (really great dinner), then top it off with something from Tutti-Frutti (awesome homemade ice cream). The Above grounds coffee house is a great place to stop in and get an iced coffee on a hot afternoon.

The 3 pools were kept clean every day. If they cleaned them in the morning the breeze would blow stuff in and by afternoon they looked bad but they did clean them every day. They did rake the beach every morning however being on the windward side the beach surf was pretty high everyday we were there and the seaweed just kept coming in.

Security was very visible and I felt comfortable enough to leave my Ipad out charging in the room when we were gone. They do have in room safes.

We did go there to reef dive and whale shark dive. We did not use the onsite dive shop, they had a lot of bad reviews for safety and attention, but we did not hear any real complaints from the other guests while we were there. We did our diving with Seahorse in Placencia, it was awesome we saw 5 whale sharks in 4 dives.

The taxi ride into town (one way) was $10 US from Robert's Grove $20 US if you stay even 2 miles further up the road like Maya beach.

They keep lotion, shampoo, conditioner and a hair dryer in the bathroom. I like to know this for suitcase weight due to the fact we are divers and bring a lot of gear so every ounce can make a difference for us.

We like to walk the beach to town in other places so my biggest disappointment was the fact that when we walked to Seine Bight less than a mile down the beach it was like a garbage dump right on the ocean. Apparently the local people don't feel compelled to keep the beautiful ocean front beautiful. Seine Bight is just a small town with a few stores and would benefit more if the tourist had a nice beach to walk up to town. I know we would have went into Seine Bight everyday.

We did go on the Monkey River tour - if you have all ready seen howler monkeys and have taken a boat through the mangroves I would not recommend this tour. I heard other guests saying the tube caving was fun, we wished we would have done that.

I did like staying at Robert's Grove and I would recommend it for most anyone.

I would definitely go back to Placencia but I might try staying in town the next time.

Room Tip: If you like quiet the one bedroom villa in bldg. I was very quiet and comfortable.
