Our family of 4 stayed here and loved every minute. We found Domingo's cooking the highlight- lobster tail and key lime pie...? Yes!
We will never forget the snorkel trip to the reef - best snorkeling we've ever seen (exceeds Fiji or Cayman) -- go out to Silk Caye and swim with sharks and turtles! The pier is fantastic and a true bonus- not to mention the pool and beach and swing under the cabana - you never need to leave!
The only cons were that town is pretty far away and not very developed (shop at Treasure Box) - and the pier is private but the 18 people renting the villa next door kept coming to the pier one at a time to visit us and we found it exhausting politely getting them to leave.
A call to Mabel solved it, just very unfortunate it came to that.
I would recommend this highly to anyone considering a stay in Belize. One of the few properties that has pool, beach and pier all in one!
We were a family of 9 adults who stayed here at Villa Tipsy Gecko for 2 weeks...It is right on the ocean and the private pool makes it that much better. The Villa is exactly as the photos show if not better. Mabel was very knowledgeable about the area and all of the excursions. I can't say enough about efficient Mabel is. We used the included golf cart to take the leisurely 35 minute drive into the town of Placencia to do some shopping. Certain excursions required you to drive there yourself so we also rented a vehicle and found the prices reasonable for rentals. Overall a great time was had by all!
I have rented vacation villas around the world and was pleasantly surprised as to how much was included in this rental. You got daily maid service, daily laundry service, a personal chef every 3 days, privileges at the fancy Placencia Hotel pool, ice machine, fully equipped kitchen, bikes, kayaks, paddle boards etc.
Each bedroom had a bathroom and there was a view of the sea from every room. Not to mention the beach was steps from the house. This place had it all. We had 8 people and there was plenty of space for all of us.

We were a group of 9 adults staying at this house for a week. The house looks exactly like the pictures of the house - if not even better in real life! The house was big, clean and spacious even for 9 adults. All the beds were very comfortable to sleep in - except from the sofa bed where you can actually feel the bed spring...
This was included in the house:
- Housekeeping every day - cleaning of the house, doing our laundry
- A chef - who came three days during the week we were there, cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner for us every day he was there. The chefs name is Domingo and he made excellent food! He was in addition very nice, pleasant and service minded! (we wanted to take him home with us!)
- Kitchen utensils was included in the kitchen
The caretakers of the house - Javier and Mabelle were also very service minded and accomodating. They were very helpful with whatever we need or had questions about.
It was great to stay in this house - even better than staying at a hotel!

The house (Lazy Gecko) was clean and bright, the Staff was courteous and efficient, the Service was far above the average and the accommodations were like being at home! Also, to further add to an amazing experience, Domingo made delicious meals that exceeded anything we ate on the Peninsula. His food and attitude was as good as it gets......save the trip in town and have him work his magic in the kitchen. The only thing hard about this trip is having to go back home...Well done!
Highland Village, Texas
My wife and I stayed at VTG for two weeks in July 2013 as one of four couples and always had plenty of room on this scenic property. All of the bedrooms were very comfortable and the bathrooms all had very large tiled showers. The kitchen was very conducive to cooking for large groups, and we all ate together at the house often. No matter how many people were in the house, there always seemed to be a quiet corner available somewhere to slip away for reading a book. The pavilion at the end of the pier got daily use from our group. The hammocks and chairs out there are the best for spending a few hours relaxing. We even did some snorkeling right there at the house when the water was calm. The golf cart was a huge plus. We used it daily for grocery shopping and restaurant trips. The caretakers Javier and Mabelle were always gracious and helpful. Mabelle visited every day to clean and do laundry. I cannot overstate how valuable this was. We ended up not using many of the clothes we packed just because it was so convenient having them washed for us. It would not have been an easy task to load up and head to the village laundry. We had zero problems with the air conditioning and zero problems with security. The pool offered a great way to cool off when it got hot, or when we were ready to relax at the end of the day after an excursion. It also has an underwater spotlight that changes colors at night; we all thought that was a pretty neat addition. Bed linens and pillows were even more comfortable than the ones at home. The furniture was all very well kept and comfortable; not second hand beach house rental furniture. It was easy to see after 2 weeks that we may have had the nicest house on the peninsula. There were one or two others that looked like they might stack up, but we all agreed that we wouldn’t have changed a thing about our selection. David and Kathy were very helpful setting up the local air travel for us (seemed like the prop planes were almost always late; we would’ve been there in the same amount of time and seen some great scenery if we drove down from Belize City), and our security deposit was returned quickly, and in full. The kayaks and snorkeling equipment they provided at the house were of great quality, and we enjoyed it all. We drank the water (and the ice from the helpful ice machine!) and had no issues. I usually never consider going back to the same place, since there is still so much world left to see, but I will definitely give some serious thought to bringing the kids back to VTG. We miss this place already!
