We were shuttled from Maya Beach Hotel and quickly outfitted for a 1/2 day snorkel trip. Our guide was easy going and friendly. He handled the boat to smooth the wind and waves and snorkeled with us as a guide.

We initially went out with Seahorse Dive Shop for our Discover Scuba Diving intro course and had such an amazing experience with our instructor (Warren) that we decided to get fully certified within the next couple of days (PADI open-water diving certification). We visited the Silk Cayes and Laughing Bird Caye; it was absolutely beautiful! Our instructor for the open-water segment was laid-back, flexible, a ton of fun and super competent. Huge thanks to Devin for this amazing experience! We look forward to our next diving trip already. They aren't necessarily the most showy dive-shop, but they definitely know what they are doing. They are not money-hungry and are all about showing you a good time in the water. We felt we were in great hands and would recommend them to anyone wanting to take their PADI open water diving certification!

This review is from a trip a few years back. We found the dive staff uncommunicative and too controlling. On our first dive one client had an issue with the rental gear at the beginning of the dive. After surfacing with him and his wife I let the guide deal with the issue. The other 5 divers myself included had already descended so I rejoined them where we waited for about 5 minutes for the guide to return. He did not so given he said nothing about remaining at the anchorage we slowly started to explore the reef. When the boat picked us up (pseudo-drift dive) the guide said nothing. When we went into shore for lunch he was the first off the boat and said nothing all during lunch. When we all got back on the boat he sternly said that he was the dive guide and that no one was to conduct a dive without him. That did not go over very well with any one on the boat.

Two days later whilst on a whale shark dive another guide chewed on us for remaining "in" the water too long. While we all "surfaced" as a group, because of the wave action my wife and I remained about ~5' below the water line while waiting for others to use the ladder. He did not care he wanted on us aboard. How does one get on board when the ladder is occupied? After that we talked with the owner's son. (See below).

The next day we went out with one other diver. The guide (yet a different one) laid out the dive site and said we would surface after 45 minutes (second dive). We noted that for dives at that depth that 60 minutes would be typical. The other diver agreed and said that we should plan for a longer dive. The guide said at 45 minutes we would check remaining air and continue on based on that. Fair enough. At 40 minutes and at about 40 feet we all had over 1000 psi. At 45 minutes the guide called the dive and went up to do their safety stop. Being a psuedo-drift dive we started up as well. I ended the dive with over 900 psi and could have easily spent another 15 minutes on the shallow part of the reef.

After the second issue we spoke to Brian Jr. the owner's son. We had a long chat of what we expected and that his guides needed to be more communicative and accommodating. Further we requested different guides for our remain two days. It really did not improve given the 45 minute dive. We talked to a few other divers and they also felt similar about the guides they interacted with. In the end after setting our bill we left no tip for any of the guides. We made it obvious to Brian Jr. that it was not an over site. He got the message.

I will give some positive comments, email communication from Brian Jr. was good, the lunches were nice as they were on an island and a BBQ each day. Though always chicken.

We recently used Seahorse Dive Shop to take our family out for snorkeling and then for a few of us a scuba dive experience out of Placencia. We researched several companies and settled on Seahorse Dive Shop and we are glad we did. Brian was very helpful in guiding us to pick good days and destinations for our outings. Our experience was wonderful. The staff is experienced, knowledgeable, friendly, and flexible. Our extended family of four adults and three children (ages 13, 12, and 9) had a great time. On day two, Max was our snorkeling guide. He guided us around the reefs, showing us many fish and other interesting inhabitants of the area. He would dive down and point out things we would otherwise have missed totally. He had a wealth of information. The reefs are beautiful! Max could also answer questions about the birds and overall ecology of the area. I think those members of my family who scuba dived (for their first dives ever) would also say good things about Devan and Sean who were their guides. Mid day we had a delicious picnic lunch on a caye. For our final destination on day two we went to a location where we could see turtles, sharks, and rays...WOW! Very exciting!. We highly recommend Seahorse Dive Shop.

In early February, my family (my husband and two daughters aged 10 and 7) went out with Devin from Placencia to Laughing Bird Caye to snorkel. He was the absolute best, most personable guide we have EVER encountered! The snorkelling was great, the island beyond picturesque but the guide is what made this day, the most memorable of our 9 days in Belize and will stand out in our memory for years to come. He just went out of his way to do little things to make the trip fun and exciting for us but mainly the girls. He let one daughter steer the boat all the way to the island and the other drive it all the way back. Devin constantly made jokes with the girls and kept them engaged the entire day. He took my yougest by the hand snorkelling for at least an hour showing absolutely as much as he could, adjusting her snorkel & fin whenever necessary and making sure she was having fun. While we waited for our amazingly delicous lunch to settle, he suggested hermit crab races - how fun is that for ALL of us (not just for the kids!). It was obvious he also has 2 daughters! He was so much fun to spend the day with and made our snorkelling day outstanding. Thank you Devin!!!!
