We visited Placencia for the last two weeks in April for our our 50th birthdays. We decided to stay at Los Porticos Villas as it was highly recommended. We made the right decision for us. Seclusion when we wanted it, and nightlife when we wanted to party. The Villas are spacious well maintained and have all the luxury one would want. The people in Placencia make this vacation one to remember. They are so friendly as we felt like residents no tourists. The villas are a short bicycle ride into the quiet town (during the day especially) or if you prefer, a 5 minute taxi into Placencia. We biked into the town all 14 days, and we loved it. The villas are a mix of owners and people who rent. The owners were great and when we left we met some great friends, thus we will be back next year. Thanks to the property manager Barry, along with Gayone, and all the wonderful people at the villas. A special thanks goes out to Stoney the bartender at Los Porticos as he was awesome. Again first and foremost I want to thank the people in Placencia for making us feel so welcome. We have traveled all over the world, and this is one of the best vacations we have ever had. To the owners thanks for sharing your condo with us.

We had an amazing 1 week stay at Los Porticos in Placencia, Belize. I found Los Porticos online while researching many different options. As a family of four (kids age 6 and 10) we had a few criteria that needed to be met, one of which was a pool. And this pool was beautful! We spent a lot of time here and looked forward to swimming up to the bar for virgin pina coladas and Belikin beers. The other two reasons we chose LP was for the wi-fi and the proximity to town. The wireless connection was fast and efficient. For those who own their own companies and need to stay "plugged in", this suited the bill. LP is only a mile from the village, a very easy bike ride or quick golf cart ride. We rented a cart the entire week and would recommend that to anyone going for a short time. It gave us the freedom to explore towns further north (Siene Bight and Maya Beach) and we went into the village with it at least 2-3 times per day.
Los Porticos and their staff (Gayone) were very good with communication during and before our stay. The property managers Val and Barry (who my husband referred to as "the hardest working man in Placencia") were extremely accomodating. They helped us with booking tours, giving directions and pointing us towards all the best places to eat, buy groceries, etc.
We stayed in a back unit (5B) and next time we would spend a little more to have an ocean view. In fact I got to see one while I was there (2D) and it was gorgeous!
We absolutely loved the little town of Placencia. The people (and dogs) we met were all so genuine and friendly. The prices were great, the views incredible and the laid-back vibe suited this city family perfectly. WHEN we go back to Placencia, we will absolutely stay at Los Porticos again!

Ask for a room right on the beach - but actually any of the villas are excellent. The pool is great, right next to the beach. The beach is perfect - lovely sand. These villas are gathered around a sandy area with palm trees. The villas themselves are fairly basic but comfortable and have great hammocks. Arrange a trip out to one of the cayes from here. You can rent a whole caye to yourself, with your own private cook or enough food to cook for yourselves, for a very minimal cost. Turtle Inn is next door - and much fancier. I prefer this spot as it's in just as beautiful a spot (next door) but it's relaxed and an amazing value. Stay at Turtle Inn for full service and luxe villas. Walk in to the town of Placencia for a bit of local color. It's tiny and basic - don't expect much. A few colorful houses and a soccer field.

Room Tip: Ask for a villa on the beach! Reserve one night on your own private caye - the owners can arrange that for you.

My wife and I, along with another couple, stayed at the Los Porticos Condos in January of 2013. The location was perfect, the beach, pool and grounds were absolutely amazing. We had some rain (was told this was rare) but it did not negatively impact our overall impression of this beautiful part of the world! Plenty of perfect 'beach town' restaurants available a short drive, and in some cases a short walk away. The views from the condo were stunning, even though we were two buildings away from 'beach front'. I didn't see any buildings or units that would not have access tot he stunning views from the veranda. Unit was perfectly furnished and the owners were extremely easy to work with. An awesome experience overall!!

We spent 8 nights at Los Porticos Villas in beachfront two-bedroom condo (Villa 2D). What a great vacation! The balcony has an awesome view of the ocean and the pool and is a great place to sit with coffee or a drink and enjoy the breeze and watch the sunrise. Villa 2D has one of the best views in the complex. The landscaping is beautiful and the whole complex is very quiet. Each morning we enjoyed watching all the different birds that visit the area. The pool is just the right temperature and it was fun to enjoy happy hour at the pool bar. The interior of the condo is spacious and well-equipped with washer and dryer, dishwasher, flat-screen TV, ceiling fans, comfortable beds and air-conditioning which we only needed to use a few humid nights. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals. Light housekeeping was provided daily.

The town of Placencia is only a 5 minute taxi ride (about $10 USD roundtrip) away with a modern supermarket and lots of restaurants and bars. We stocked the fridge with Belikin beer, breakfast supplies and various cold drinks to enjoy during the day. We ate at restaurants in town almost every evening – favorites include Barefoot Bar, Omar’s, Det’hach, Wendy’s and Rumfish. We also walked over to the Turtle Inn next door and tried their pool/oceanview restaurant. The property management staff was very helpful and we booked several tours through the office – we did a full day of birding, a half-day of snorkeling and a trip to Monkey River. The opportunities for viewing birds are incredible – we really enjoyed seeing the Scarlet Macaws. We had access to two bikes which we used to go into town during the day – don’t forget to reward yourself with gelato from Tutti Frutti. We did not need to rent a vehicle. We also spent time walking on the beach - very relaxing. We did not have time to visit any of the many Mayan ruin sites but that is on my list for next time.

We used Tropic Air for the flights from Belize City to Placencia. The arrangements were handled by the property management office and we were picked up by taxi for the short 5 minute trip to Los Porticos. We used a direct United flight from Newark to Belize City – this is a good choice for visitors from eastern Canada, particularly the Ottawa area as there is a direct flight from Ottawa to Newark.

This would be a great choice of accommodation in Placencia for a couple, two couples, a group of friends or a family. The local people and guides we met were so friendly and everyone is very laid-back. I can’t wait to go back!
