“Favorite Restaurant in Belize”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2012

We loved so many restaurants in Belize but this one was by far our favorite. The food was delicious, well presented, and the vibe was great. The place overlooks the local football/soccer field and we were lucky enough to catch one of the big games (they only happen once in a while).

Firstly, the service was friendly, professional and the owner seemed to be there every night and would come and say hello to all of the tables, which we thought was a really nice touch. The drinks were amazing and considering you are getting big city style cocktails (rum infused fruit, 2 ounce mojitos) the price of $6 US is easily justifiable. Their regular drinks and beer were on par with all the other local bars and restaurants from what I could see, maybe a dollar more.

The food was amazing, really. I wish we had Rumfish in Vancouver! We each ordered a variety of dishes but the ones that stood out were the conch fritters, the fresh tuna pasta (with sundried tomatoes, capers, black olives and sardines), the fish stew and the fish tacos.

We were traveling Belize for 2 weeks on our honeymoon and had we been doing a more backpacking style trip we might not have indulged as much but we are sure glad we did. Even if you are on a tight budget I'd recommend treating yourself at least one night while in Placencia.

“Layered Flavors”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2012

Rumfish y Vino offered the best meal we had in Belize. We loved their big flavor infusion cuisine utilizing the local foods. I had my first ever Mojito ~ couldn't resist the Ginger version. Oh and dessert featuring chocolate w/habanero, yum.

“Creative and good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2012

We had read and heard so much about Rumfish y Vino and were so excited to try it! Located in a beautiful older house and facing Placencia's main drag, it's easy to find.
The restaurant's owners both welcomed us when we arrived. The drink menu was creative and yummy--the bar creates its own infusions.
I ordered the fish tacos and noticing the fresh fruits and vegetables on the accompanying other menu options I ordered a small salad of some kind. I was informed that Rumfish doesn't offer salad so I requested roasted vegetables that I'd noticed were available with another item. Fish tacos were really great while the veggies were mushy and indistinguishable one from another.
The servers were nice but things seemed a little confusing when multiple servers would approach us seeming as if no one quite knew who was taking care of us.
Overall, the menu was creative and the food tasted good but I thought the restaurant was a little overrated.

“Accidental, yet fortunate, find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2012

We happened upon Rum Fish & Vino by accident, and even though we did not have reservations (it was Christmas night) and they were expecting a large crowd shortly who DID have reservations, they invited us in, and did not rush us while we were there. We enjoyed our meal with friends we had just met the day before, all of us had great food, and the service and presentation was very good. The decor was lovely, and it was a little more upscale than some of the "regular" places in the village, and they had a wide variety of cocktail specialties to choose from. A pleasant find, very good food, and accommodating! We will be back for sure!

Nothing special but half the price of the food at Turtle Inn.
