A little rough around the edges but the dishes -fried barracuda and chicken stew (one of 3 options "ready" when we were there)--were fresh and delicious with great spicy slaw, coconut rice and beans (common side everywhere went)

We ate at Omar's three times in our four day stay in Placencia and enjoyed it each time. The fresh caught seafood, which included lobsters and stone crab claws, was amazing and well-priced. (note: We live in a large metropolitan area and may have a different perspective than those from smaller areas on what constitutes fairly priced food.). The stone crab claws were in a coconut curry sauce - five or six claws for about US$15. The grilled lobster was similarly priced. The sides are Belizean with rice and beans, etc. There is also the ubiquitous Belizean chicken, but it is really the seafood that shines.

Hours are somewhat odd. Double check to see when they will be open. When we were there, they were closed on Saturday night.

The atmosphere is friendly and watching the street life from the porch is definitely part of the entertainment. Omar himself is somewhat larger than life - a gregarious island showman - who will make you feel you have chosen well for your evening meal (or lunch) and, in truth, you have.

hello to all ,

we ate @ omar's sept. 30th 2011 & really enjoyed the delicious food , conversation & family atmosphere. well priced & great location in town . omar is almost finished building his new restaurant ( @ the same location ) should be done around oct. 12th . the cooking station will now be @ the back of the new building with 75% seating directly in front , lots of room so as to satisfy more hungry folks !!!
the new building looks 2 have 3 x the seating ,so there should be less people waiting in line during peak seasion. being placencias longest running restaurant , says omar , they get enough clientele to stay open all year where as we r seeing a few close for this time of the year due to lack of sales. says alot about their food !!! try it , it is worth it !!!

This is one of my favourite places to eat in Placencia. Located right on the main street in the heart of Placencia, you want to make sure you don't miss this one! Guaranteed to make your mouth water, they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have eaten here many times during my many visits to Placencia, and have never been disappointed. Try the local favourites - Creole chicken, curried chicken, freshly caught fish such as snapper, macharel or jackfish - creole bread, breakfasts served with fried jacks, beans, and plantain. Fresh juices and a great cup of coffee! Specials are prepared daily, and it does not take long to get your food. Portions are filling and priced to suit everyone's pocketbook! I'll be back!!!

I have been eating at Omar's regularly for three years now. It is family-run; you will sit outdoors at small wooden tables, right on the main street, looking at pictures painted by Omar's son. The family is always experimenting with new dishes and sauces. The best option here is always the fresh fish, crabs, lobster or other seafood - if you come early in the day you may see Omar cleaning the fish, so you know it is always fresh. They have plans to expand soon, which means that more people will be able to share their excellent food. Do not expect a white tablecloth or nouvelle cuisine - this is Belizean Kriol cooking all the way. Salads are good and improving rapidly now that Perez' vegetable stand is right behind the restaurant.
