We had a great hike up the Ben's Bluff trail. Not too strenuous and a great waterfall pool to cool off on the way down. Saw tracks from wild life and the view from the top was outstanding.

We just came back from our amazing 9-day birding trip in Belize. A visit to Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve is absolutely a MUST!

This is our repeat visit to Cockscomb. Learning from our last visit, we know that Cockscomb is fantastic for birds and other wildlife; therefore, we purposely booked 2 birding trips with Julio Saqui (Julio_saqui@hotmail.com) and William Sho (Bird Guide) for an early morning bird walk and a night safari! In addition, we also reserved breakfast, lunch and a traditional Mayan dinner with Julio.
This time we were so lucky to see a pair of Great Currasows on our way to the preserve entrance; in addition, gray fox wandering at the ranger station, we also saw a giant Green Tree Snake hunting a frog. At night, we got to enjoy a great sighting of an Ocelot. Cockscomb never fails to offer its diversified wildlife…….

Julio and his wife prepared excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner for us. The breakfast coffee is hand-made by Julio’s wife via traditional Mayan method. We requested Julio’s "pork bites" with tortilla, it is heavenly!! Dinner was served Mayan cohune cabbage (cohune palm) and chicken at the Maya Center. We had a great Mayan cultural/culinary and wildlife experience.

All of us agree that this is one of our best birding destinations!

A beautiful place of jungle and mountains, with mice tracks, but unfortunately seeming any wildlife is not easy and even seen birds is not as easy as in other places in Belize.

If you want an energetic jungle trek, very worthy, if you want to see animals, you will have a better chance in a night visit, daytime is certainly a disappointment

We took an all day tour from Placencia with a cost of $80 each, including lunch. There were 4 of us and we had our own driver/guide. He was very nice but not very knowledgeable about the park. We started with a hike to a waterfall, which the tour operator had mentioned as 45 minutes long. It took us 2.25 hours and we never reached the waterfall. I'm not sure we were on the right trail - and it was steep - up, up, up and then down, down and down. That said we enjoyed walking in the woods/jungle and the views from the top of the ridge were lovely. If we'd understood in advance what we were in for we would have brought more water (we ran out early) and some snacks. There are many trails in the sanctury so talk to the staff before going out. The tubing on the river was lovely and lots of fun. There's an easy 15 minute walk to the input and from the end back. There is a 3 to 4 day hike to the top of Victoria Peak which sounded interesting for very in shape hikers (needs a guide).

Be prepared to hike! hahahaha, we thought when we reached a series of steep steps that we had reached the steep part! hahahahaha. You don't get to steep until you start using ropes to pull yourself up. This hike to the top of the falls and the pool is so worth the trip but not for someone out of shape. Going up is the easy part. you then have to use the ropes to back down the mountain. Great adventure. Beautiful scenery. cost is like $5/pp
