A must if you are staying in Hopkins (which is the best place to stay both from the point of view of seeing local things and both cheap and quality accomodation)

My husband & I spent an entire day hiking here. We did the waterfall hike which is pretty strenuous in elevation but totally worth the exercise! The work is rewarded with waterfall swims, views of the cockscomb, and beautiful scenery. Bring a bunch of water, good shoes, backpacks, swimsuit if you want to swim. We ran out of water after the 1st 2 hikes (about3hrs).

Rainy season in Belize went a little longer this year and most of the 3 weeks we spent in Belize were overcast and rainy. We rented a dirt bike and went exploring. Cockscomb is a great place to be when it's rainy because the large canopy of trees keeps you somewhat dry. I imagined what it must be to be an ant making my way through tall grass. Speaking of ants keep your eyes open for the leaf cutter ants. You will see their well beaten roads crossing the path many times and if you stop to look you will see the many ants carrying pieces of leaves like a sail. What needs improvement ? The self guided 123 trail is very difficult to follow. Any many of the distances for the trails are incorrect.

Our hikes here were late in the day. No mammals to speak of, but a fair variety of birds. Great place, a full day is warranted, but we did not do it. Maybe the Jaguars are waiting just for you!!!

Take a boat tour and see many local birds in their natural habitat. You can also take a hiking tour for a great photo experience.
