Oh my gosh, this was the worst place I have ever stayed! My husband and I were there to celebrate our anniversay, New Year's and to look for a place to retire. We paid for 3 days, ended up asking for our money back for the next 2 days the next morning! We were shown the room right before going house hunting with our realtor, room looked very basic but clean, had an air-conditioner and ceiling fan so thought "ok for the price." When we returned, the restaurant & bar was already closed (it wasn't very late), no place near to get anything to eat. We couldn't figure out how to use the air-conditioner, and the ceiling fan barely turned so we went downstairs and talked to the lady cleaning up the bar area...found out it is an EXTRA charge for the air-conditioning! OK, we thought we could have the windows open to cool off the place...didn't help. BUT, the WORST part was somthing LOUD banging and vibrating through the room ALL NIGHT! We even went out on the balcony to try to figure out what it was. Happened every 5-10 minutes ALL NIGHT! No sleep at all! Finally discovered the next morning, there was rebar sticking out of the roof on all 4 corners (they're adding another story) and the rebar was clanging in the wind and vibrating through the rooms. When we told the manager we weren't staying the other two nights, he gave us a hateful glare and SHOVED the money back at us! The money was less than what he owed us but since he was so ANGRY looking, I was afraid to dispute it. I don't even recomend this whole area if you're there for pleasure. There is NOTHING to do there, only a couple of small restaurants (but they were adequate in the food they offered-but did not eat at the Mark Anthony), no shopping, hardly even any place to get grocery store type of food. All the locals go over to the Corozal Free Zone in Mexico so this town is DYING! I felt so sorry for all the residents! Better to visit Placencia if you're looking for a fun area, beach and swimming were awesome there.
