“AMAZING Family Vacation Spot - We Loved It!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2009

We just came back from a 5 night, 4 day stay at Ka'ana and we thought the resort was spectacular!!! We actually tried and wanted to stay at Chaa Creek (which is only 15 mins away) but they were booked. Boy did we get lucky - Ka'ana is way better and much more personal!

The resort is like a mini-Four Seasons in the jungle. We had 2 casitas next to each other. The room each had an incredibly comfortable king bed with white linens and the bathrooms where luxurious (we even had the nice white robes). The staff cater to your every need and we found each person to be so warm and nice. They all felt like family by the time that we left.

The staff go out of their way to make each guest feel like they own the hotel. No matter how busy the hotel was, we always felt like we were the only ones staying there. They arrange tours to leave at different times so that you are often one of the only ones in the dining room in the morning. They offer each guest special dining experiences (for no addl $$$) around the pool or out on the patio so even dinner is private and romantic. Almost all tours are offered privately, and if you end up sharing with one other family or couple, each group gets their own tour guide once you arrive. I highly recommend arranging tours through the hotel.

We had Wilbert for our main tour guide and he was spectacular!! Our kids cried when he left us at the airport and they are still asking about him. The tours we did are as follows:

Jaguaw Paw Cave Tubing: Fun family experience. Very easy tour going through a cave on an inner tube looking at bats. Make sure to go without a crowd - we had the place to ourselves and it was fun and relaxing.

Tikal - Unbelieveable ruins and great day. We had Mario as our guide once we got to Tikal and he was great. It is a full day and worth doing.

ATM - This was the best tour. Our 6 year old did it and it was like nothing we have ever done before. Bring good hiking sandals that can get wet and eat a snack before you go into the cave.

Visit a Local School - Ka'ana arranged for us to visit a local school and donate some supplies. I highly recommend this for any family coming to Belize. The school was inviting and welcoming and the kids all played at recess with our kids. We brought crayons, markers, toys and games. If I were to come back, I would bring more books, shoes/sneakers, outside toys like soccer balls, jump ropes, etc.

Chaa Creek - Butterfly gardens, lunch and canoeing down the river to town. The resort at Chaa Creek is large and beautiful. It is a long ride up a bumpy road that would add a good 20 minutes to any excursion (which already come with long drives on bad roads to begin with). They have a nice new pool with a good family scene. The butterfly garden was very fun for the kids and they also liked the canoeing. I recommend going to Chaa Creek for a day if you stay at Ka'ana, but after a day, I was happy to come back to Ka'ana.

Ka'a,a has a smaller, beautiful pool and gorgeous grounds. Make sure to get a tour of the garden! The restaurant was very good and we enjoyed all of our meals. Try eating pizza and nachos in the bar one night if you stay for awhile as you can only have so many nights of 3 course meals. I do think the restaurant needs to add a kid menu, but they were very accomodating of my kids and their eating habits and we had no problem feeding the kids. Alex was out waiter and he was great!

I would recommend planning in advance with the hotel for tours and meals. The food at the hotel is expensive, and I was glad that I had included my meals and tours in my plan ahead of time. Shakira and Luky were my main contacts, and they were both excellent!

Overall, we had an amazing time at Ka'ana! It was one of those rare, special places where everything seems to work - the location, the staff, the food... If you are going to Belize and want the stay to be memorable, stay here!

The only thing that we think that Ka'ana should change is (1) adding a kids menu and (2) the charge for small incidentals. We wanted to have some wash done at the hotel, but the charge was $3-$5 in US per piece. In a country where the average person makes $11/day, laundry should have been $5/load, not per piece.

My husband and I just returned from celebrating our first anniversary/late honeymoon in Belize. Based on the recommendations of other Belize travellers, we split our stay in the country in the jungle and on the beach. We spent the first four days of our stay in San Igancio at Ka'ana Boutique Resort. The resort grounds are nothing short of breathtaking. The staff -- from the manager to the waitstaff to the houseckeepers -- were incredibly hard-working, friendly and attentive to our every need. The restaurant food was simply delicious and the spa services provided great relaxation after long excursions in the jungle. Ka'ana exceeded all of our expectations. We were actually sad to leave for the second portion of our trip (the beach hotel, though one of the best in town just didn't compare to Ka'ana). Thanks to Ka'ana's incredible staff for making our trip so wonderful and memorable.

We came to Ka'ana after spending several nights and the beginning of our honeymoon at super posh Cayo Espanto. We didn't think we would find anyplace quite as nice - we were wrong. Ka'ana was amazing from beginning to end. We purchased a package which I would highly recommend and were able to go on any private excursions that we wanted every day, have spa treatments, and all of our food was included. We were greeted by Nick the General Manager the first night and immediately felt at home. Every day was a new adventure with Wilbert the resort tour guide. He was so flexible and knowledgeable we had the best time and would recommend using him even if you aren't staying at the resort (another couple that we met was staying somewhere else and actually used Wilbert for several tours because he was so good). Gretel was amazing and gives the best massages (and facials, and manicures). Leo & Alex were both great as bartenders/waiters. The adventures that we had during the day were only better because I knew that we were coming back to our awesome Casita at night (complete with a good night snack waiting in the fridge). I was honestly surprised with how good the food was - some of the best dished that I had were vegatarian and they have an organic garden on-site. The people there were so kind and flexible and friendly it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We are trying to plan our return trip already!! Thank you Ka'ana!! Bonus - they are currently building an airport only minutes away from the hotel so the 2 hour drive from Belize City won't be necessary (even though the drive is beautiful).

My girlfriend and I arrived in Belize in early January for a week’s getaway.

We were collected at the airport and spent 4 nights at Ka’ana Boutique Hotel. We got a real sense of culture as we made our way to the Hotel and also got lots of helpful hints on things to do from our Driver on route.

On arrival we were greeted with cocktails and a warm welcome from the General Manager and his staff. We were then taken through the beautifully landscaped resort, past the pool and into our air conditioned Casita. The room was beautifully laid out with good space, a wall mounted large flat screen TV, bathrobe robes, high quality linens, and an amazing King size bed - We had arrived - Luxury!

While we had plenty of help from staff on things to do and see, we also just enjoyed the luxurious laid back atmosphere of the resort. We were catered for on every level. One of the evenings after an active day walking and climbing the local Mayan ruins, we arrived back at the hotel and enjoyed an hour long head-to-toe deep tissue massage. Soon after, we were invited to the wine cellar for a glass of Shiraz. This was then followed by a top class dinner in the dining room prepared by an award winning and humourous chef. It was a special evening indeed!

Customer service was 7 star level - I mean it! - What a find!

We have made plans to return to Belize again and to Ka'ana Resort especially.

Might see you in Ka'ana next time we're down!

We had a fantastic 3 night stay at Ka'ana. The accomodations were very comfortable with modern amenities especially for the remote location. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Eva was a great hostess for our wine cellar welcome and Wilbert was a very interesting and helpful guide. Shakira always had a smile and helped with any questions. Manolo is a great chef and provided us with an outstanding meal. We were sorry to have to leave but hope to return someday soon.

The Ka'ana is a very nice property with outstanding service that reminds me of the "W" hotels in the US. The rooms have every modern amenity - LCD TVs, 200+ channels of satellite TV, iPod charging stations, etc..and are spacious.

The service was incredibly personal and amazing. I really can't overstate that. The welcome drink and "hot towel" service reminded me of checking into one of the 5 star Taj Group of hotels in India.

Eva and Nick, the managers are terrific and truly get to know their guests. Wilbert, the tour guide is also warm, personable and funny.

The only downside to this property is that at times we felt like we hadn't left San Francisco. Prices were all quoted in US dollars (which somehow felt wrong) and were quite high for the food. Meals were variable - some were terrific, others were not so.

I would recommend this to my urbanite friends who crave 5 star service and every amenity in a safe "American" environment....but probably not for those wanting a more authentic Belizean experience.

  • Liked — Down comfortors and the amazing swimming pool
  • Disliked — Prices quoted in US dollars on the property

My best friend and I spent three glorious, perfect days in Ka'ana Resort. It was the best resort I have ever stayed in! We had just come from Tikal, and they collected us and drove us there in a lovely 4x4, with A/C and refreshments provided. When we arrived, they were expecting us and we were warmly greeted with a cold drink and a cooling face towel. The extremely friendly staff showed us around the beautiful reception, pool area and then to our rooms.

The casitas (like individual apartments) were absolutely luxurious! They were complete with all the mod cons one would expect from a resort of this calibre, and are in a beautiful setting. We had planned to dine in the nearby San Ignacio, (the second largest city in Belize), but instead we dined at the restaurant in Kaana all three days we were there, all the meals were so amazing!

We did two trips - Cave Tubing in Jaguar Paw and Caving in Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM). We enjoyed both greatly. The guides were exceptional, and the experiences memorable. They organised every part of our holiday, including onward transport to Placencia, down south east. The tree planting upon our departure was a perfect finish to a perfect stay.

Overall, the staff were perfect - very friendly, professional, helpful and hospitable. The meals were top quality. Every inch of the resort was meticulously maintained. I will definitely return and partake in more of the various activities they offer. Next time, I will stay for longer in Ka'ana! Wonderful! :o)
